๐๐ 1. Interim President Duwa Lashi La Meets with the Special Advisory Council for Myanmar

The Interim President of the National Unity Government (NUG), Duwa Lashi La, and other government officials held a virtual meeting with the Special Advisory Council for Myanmar (SAC-M) via Zoom on December 20.
The meeting was attended by the Interim President, along with key members of the NUG, including the Union Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Union Minister of Human Rights, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Deputy Minister of International Cooperation, Secretaries of the Government, and Spokespersons of the Presidential Office, according to reports.
The SAC-M is an independent international advisory group of experts supporting the Myanmar people's fight for human rights, peace, democracy, justice, and accountability. Members of SAC-M include Mr. Marzuki Darusman, former Chair of the UN Independent International Fact-Finding Mission (FFM) on Myanmar, Professor Yanghee Lee, former UN Special Rapporteur on Myanmar, and Mr. Christopher Sidoti, a former member of the FFM.

๐๐ 2. NUG’s Deputy Minister Dr. Ngai Thang Maung Delivers Humanitarian Aid in Revolutionary-Controlled Areas of Magway Region

Dr. Ngai Thang Maung, the Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management of the National Unity Government (NUG), visited revolutionary-controlled areas in Magway Region to provide humanitarian aid.
During the December 2024 mission, the Deputy Minister and his team visited NUG-administered territories in Pakokku and Gangaw districts. They met with internally displaced persons (IDP) camp managers, township administrative councils, village administrative groups, revolutionary forces, and civil society organizations to discuss and coordinate ways to effectively deliver much-needed humanitarian assistance to those in critical need.
The Deputy Minister and his team worked to increase awareness about the Ministry’s ongoing operations, provided moral support to IDPs, distributed aid, and met with victims of airstrikes and violence inflicted by the junta. This included those who sustained injuries, amputees, and individuals who lost their homes in fires caused by military attacks.
They also assessed the implementation of Ministry-supported income generation projects, inspected bomb shelters constructed at schools, and visited healthcare centers and nursing schools established in the region. The team held meetings with doctors, nurses, patients, and trainees, expressing gratitude and offering encouragement, according to reports.

๐๐ 3. Public Unites Behind Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s Son’s Call for Her Immediate Release

The people of Myanmar have strongly supported a public appeal made by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's son, Ko Htein Lin, calling for her immediate release.
During the third week of December, Ko Htein Lin shared a video on social media, saying, "May my mother be released as soon as possible." The video resonated widely, with the people of Myanmar sharing and endorsing his call for her freedom.
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and members of her democratically elected government were unlawfully arrested and detained by the military junta during the coup in February 2021. They remain imprisoned under fabricated charges.

๐๐ 4. South Korea’s NUG Representative Office Secures the Release of 14 Undocumented Myanmar Nationals Arrested in December

The National Unity Government (NUG) Representative Office in South Korea announced in December that it successfully facilitated the release of 14 undocumented Myanmar nationals who had been arrested by South Korean immigration authorities earlier in the month.
The NUG Representative Office stated:
"Our office has been working within legal frameworks to secure the release of individuals detained due to visa issues. In December, we successfully secured the release of 14 undocumented Myanmar nationals and resolved a case involving the visa extension of another individual facing deportation."
The office emphasized that individuals detained by immigration authorities must be free of any criminal charges to qualify for release. Those with criminal records are not eligible for release, according to the statement.
Additionally, the office urged individuals involved in the revolutionary movement to prepare and organize documentation in advance, including proof of support for the revolution, records of participation, and other relevant information to ensure their protection when facing legal or immigration challenges.

๐ 5. Millions in Myanmar Lack Shelter and Basic Household Necessities

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) Myanmar reported on December 23 that millions of people in Myanmar are in urgent need of shelter and basic household items.
There are nearly 3.5 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the country. Many homes and essential infrastructures have been severely damaged. The report highlighted that millions are without adequate shelter and basic living essentials.
UN OCHA Myanmar also revealed that due to extremely limited funding in 2024, 1.4 million of the 5.3 million people initially targeted for humanitarian aid have received no assistance at all.
