๐๐ 2. Chinese Authorities to Crack Down on Transnational Human Trafficking Rings Operating in Myawaddy Border
January 18
Radio NUG
The Chinese Ministry of Public Security has uncovered and is targeting organized crime syndicates specializing in cross-border human trafficking along the Myanmar-Thai border, according to a statement released by Chinese authorities. Efforts are underway to rescue Chinese nationals who have been stranded and isolated in this region.
Recently, significant public attention was drawn to cases of Chinese nationals, including a Chinese actor and a traditional fire performance artist, who were lured to the Myanmar-Thai border under false pretenses. These individuals were subsequently held incommunicado. The Chinese government has taken the matter seriously, dispatching teams to investigate the situation comprehensively. Regional public security agencies have been directed to act swiftly, while diplomatic missions, including embassies and consulates, are actively coordinating rescue operations and criminal investigations.
Some Chinese nationals have already been successfully rescued and repatriated to China. Among those rescued was a Chinese actor who was trafficked through the Myanmar-Thai border into the Myawaddy "Apollo Park" zone in Myanmar. Reports suggest that victims were then further sold into fraudulent telecommunications scam zones such as "Huang Ra" and "Khai Xuan."
Chinese public security authorities are conducting simultaneous rescue and investigation operations. They have specifically identified a criminal syndicate involved in transnational human trafficking and operating covertly within Myawaddy. These groups, exploiting their location on the Myanmar border, specialize in illegal activities.
Currently, 12 suspects believed to be involved in domestic and international crimes have been apprehended through joint operations conducted by Chinese and Thai police forces. Investigations are ongoing, and efforts to track down additional suspects continue.
In Myanmar’s Myawaddy Township, particularly in regions like Shwe Kokko and casino zones, organized financial scam syndicates known as “Kyarpyaint” (fraudulent schemes) are reportedly operating under the protection of Border Guard Force (BGF) units led by Major General Saw Chit Thu, an ally of the SAC (State Administration Council). These groups are said to engage in illicit activities with impunity.
