๐๐ 1. Malaysian Foreign Minister Warns Junta's Election is Not an ASEAN Priority and Could Worsen the Conflict
May 26
Radio NUG
Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has warned that the election planned by Myanmar’s military junta is not a priority for ASEAN and could further deteriorate the country’s ongoing conflict situation. He made the remarks during a press conference held on May 25 in Kuala Lumpur.
“The election is not a top priority for ASEAN. If it is merely a facade to deceive the international community, then it is meaningless. An election under such circumstances could worsen the situation. The military junta must comply with ASEAN’s Five-Point Consensus,” the minister stated.
He further pointed out that most opposition groups are being suppressed, and that many Myanmar citizens are rejecting the idea of voting. He also highlighted that the military is losing control over large swathes of territory within the country.
“What is the purpose of holding an election simply to mislead the international community?” the Malaysian Foreign Minister questioned.
Additionally, it has been reported that ASEAN member states have reached a consensus to appoint a permanent ASEAN Special Envoy on Myanmar with a three-year term, aimed at facilitating a resolution to the crisis.
The minister emphasized that the Myanmar issue is no longer merely a domestic concern but has escalated into a regional crisis, citing cross-border criminal activities, money laundering, scams, and the Rohingya refugee crisis as contributing factors to regional instability. He noted that Malaysia alone has received more than 200,000 Rohingya refugees.

๐๐ 4. Illegal Land Sales at the Thai Border Targeting Myanmar Nationals Using Shan Ethnicity Influencers
May 26
Radio NUG
According to The Nation, illegal sales of government-owned and protected lands along the Thai-Myanmar border have sparked growing concern among the Thai public. These plots are being widely promoted for sale through signboards and online advertisements.
It has been reported that some Shan ethnic influencers from Myanmar with large followings on social media are being hired by land agents to livestream and advertise land plots in Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province. These influencers are portraying Thailand as a peaceful refuge that is conveniently accessible and near the border, encouraging Myanmar families to relocate and settle there.
Many of these advertised plots fall within government or protected zones, where under Thai law, foreign nationals are prohibited from owning land or financially backing land purchases. This has raised serious concerns that such transactions may be a form of fraud specifically targeting Myanmar buyers.
The ongoing illegal land sales along the Thai-Myanmar border violate Thai law and appear to be schemes that deliberately exploit Myanmar citizens. Swift and effective action by authorities is urgently needed to curb such operations.
