December 8, Radio NUG
The Arakan Army (AA) announced on December 8 that all riverine travel along the Naf River (on the Rakhine side) in the Maungdaw region, bordering Bangladesh, is indefinitely prohibited.
Furthermore, as of 9:30 AM on December 8, the AA claimed to have successfully taken full control of the Myanmar military’s Border Guard Police Battalion No. 5 (Na Kha Kha-5) in the Maungdaw region.
However, it was reported that some members of the Myanmar military and their allies, including Islamist extremist groups such as RSO, ARSA, and ARA, escaped with weapons and are still fleeing. The AA stated that clearing operations against these elements are ongoing.
Due to these circumstances, clashes continue in the Maungdaw region. It is reported that Myanmar military troops, along with RSO, ARSA, and ARA members, are attempting to flee via motorboats, speedboats, and other vessels along the Bangladesh-Rakhine border and the Naf River.
Citing security concerns and military requirements, the AA announced that as of 3:30 PM on December 8, all riverine travel within the Naf River on the Rakhine side is indefinitely prohibited.
