January 10
Nine detainees escaped from Aung Pan Police Station in Kalaw Township, Southern Shan State, in the early hours of January 9. According to local and military sources, one detainee was recaptured, but eight managed to escape.
The escape occurred around 1:30 AM when nine male detainees broke out. A CDM (Civil Disobedience Movement) officer, Major Zin Yaw, stated that a police officer on duty, Tun Min Kyaw, noticed noise from the restroom area and discovered the detainees trying to escape. Despite immediate efforts to apprehend them, only one detainee, Nyi Nyi Aung (also known as Nyi Aung), was caught, while the rest fled.
One of the escapees, Moe Swe Htine (also known as Ye Lay), was recaptured near Military Command Headquarters No. 903 at 9:30 AM on the same day. The remaining eight detainees are still at large.
Reports indicate that the detainees also stole a 12-volt pistol without bullets from Duty Commander Tun Myint. Local authorities, including Kalaw District Police Chief Khin Naing and 17 other officers, are intensively searching for the escapees.
The detainees ranged in age from 15 to 32, with the oldest being 32 years old. This is reportedly the first breakout incident at the Aung Pan Police Station.
Local news outlet Shwe Phi Myay reported that 10 detainees and a police officer escaped the station with firearms, but official sources have not confirmed this. The military council forces have since intensified inspections and searches in Aung Pan, following the breakout.

๐๐ 5. Justice For Myanmar Welcomes U.S. Sanctions Against Mytel and Calls for Further Targeted Measures from International Governments
January 10
Mytel has been aiding and abetting the Myanmar military in perpetuating war crimes and crimes against humanity. Justice For Myanmar issued a statement on January 10, urging international governments to impose comprehensive sanctions on Myanmar, including additional targeted sanctions on the Myanmar military, its businesses, and associates.
According to Mytel’s profit estimates, the Myanmar military’s shares in Mytel could yield USD 270 million over the company’s first five to nine years of operation, with an additional USD 450 million in the subsequent five years. This significant financial inflow could substantially benefit the military and its top-ranking generals.
On January 6, the U.S. Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security announced sanctions against Mytel, designating it as a company that poses risks to U.S. national security and interests.
The report on this matter was provided by Radio NUG correspondents Min Thihan and Ko Khant.
