In eastern Loikaw, Kayah State, an airstrike by the military council on a refugee camp has left three people dead, including a toddler and a woman, according to local sources and humanitarian workers assisting the displaced.
The attack occurred on December 31 at approximately 4:00 PM, targeting a camp known as "Sin Camp" with three consecutive bombings by military aircraft. Initially, a woman was reported dead, with four others injured, including a toddler. However, the toddler later succumbed to injuries caused by shrapnel, and another woman undergoing medical treatment also passed away.
Currently, a student receiving medical care remains in critical condition, local relief workers from Loikaw report.
In addition to this attack, the military junta carried out airstrikes in the western part of Demoso Township on New Year’s Eve. The extent of the damage in that area has yet to be confirmed, according to regional news sources.

๐ฉ๐ฉ 2. Fierce Fighting Continues in Bhamo; Military Deploys Airstrikes

Fighting over the control of Bhamo, Kachin State, has continued for nearly a month, with intense battles reported in the town as of late December. The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) is leading the offensive, while the military is deploying airstrikes in a bid to defend its positions, according to Kachin military sources.
On December 31, clashes in Bhamo intensified, with the military conducting 11 airstrikes in a single day. These bombings have reportedly damaged civilian homes and religious sites, including the Theintawgyi Monastery, local sources say.
A Kachin military source revealed on social media that during the fighting, weapons and ammunition were seized from junta forces, and several soldiers surrendered under white flags.
Clashes were particularly fierce around the Winlight Hotel and Theintawgyi Monastery on December 31, according to regional sources. Reporting on the situation, CDM journalist Bolyky Zinyaw stated that despite over a dozen airstrikes, KIA forces and their allies remain actively engaged in operations within Bhamo.
Reports also indicate that surrendered soldiers are being fed, and supplies such as weapons and ammunition were captured in battles four miles outside Mogaung. The KIA is simultaneously advancing operations in Bhamo and Mansi with the aim of taking full control of the region.

An attack on a junta convoy in Taungdwingyi Township, Magway Region, left four soldiers dead, according to Battalion 3 of the Bithanoe People's Defense Force (PDF).
The attack occurred on December 30 at 8:00 PM near the Khain Khain Kyaw and Nan Htike San fuel stations, close to Athoke Monastery. Remote-controlled mines were used to strike the convoy, which included junta forces and members of the pro-junta Pyu Saw Htee militia.
The explosion killed four, and many others were injured, according to the PDF. Bloodstains from the casualties were reportedly covered with straw mats, according to eyewitnesses.
The Bithanoe PDF Battalion 3 stated that the operation was a joint effort with the Pon Nawadi Special Guerrilla Force. They emphasized that they will continue to conduct security measures and operations in the area.

According to Data for Myanmar’s analysis of preliminary census data for Myanmar’s 2024 Population and Housing Census, the Military Council managed to collect census data for only 32 million people (63%) out of the country’s estimated population of over 51 million, leaving 19 million people (37%) uncensored.
The preliminary report outlined that census data was fully collected in 145 townships, partially collected in 127 townships, and entirely unavailable in 58 townships. However, cross-checking the township-level data revealed discrepancies: 145 townships were fully counted, 123 townships were partially counted, and 62 townships were entirely missed.
The preliminary report stated that among the estimated population of 51 million, only 63% were counted while 37% were left out. The uncensored population of over 19 million included major gaps in specific regions:
Sagaing Region: 5.2 million
Magway Region: 2 million
Rakhine State: 2.1 million
Northern Shan State: 2.7 million
Kachin State: 1.4 million
The Military Council’s Department of Population, under the Ministry of Immigration and Population, released the preliminary census data on December 31, 2024.

The People’s Defense Forces (PDF) Regiment 4 of Thayet District, Magway Region, operating under PDF District 1, issued a warning today (January 1) that the junta forces have begun using Russian-made kamikaze drones in combat zones.
The warning was issued by the Regiment’s communications officer, urging local resistance fighters and civilians to remain vigilant against the drone attacks launched by junta forces.
Regiment 4 is actively resisting the military dictatorship and providing support to displaced families in villages destroyed by military offensives. The regiment supplies food and other essential items to conflict-affected communities while continuing its military campaigns against junta forces.

๐ฉ๐ฉ 6. Nearly 2,000 Women and Children Among Over 6,000 Dead Under Military Rule

Nearly 2,000 women and children are among the more than 6,000 civilians killed under the military junta from the coup in early 2021 through December 2024, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP).
From the time of the coup to December 31, 2024, the AAPP documented a total of 6,087 confirmed civilian deaths caused by the military and its affiliates. An additional 2,900 deaths remain unverified and are being separately recorded.
Among the confirmed fatalities, the regions with the highest death tolls are Sagaing Region, Magway Region, Mandalay Region, and Rakhine State.
