๐ฉ๐ฉ 1. Military Escalation by the Junta in Putao Region
January 30
The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) Information Department announced on January 29 that the military junta had increased its troop strength and military activities in the Putao region during January.
According to local residents, junta forces and associated People's Militia groups have been stationing in civilian houses across several villages in Putao Township, further intensifying their military presence.
Following KIA's seizure of Swamparabum Township last year, the junta has consistently reinforced military operations in the Putao and Kaunglanphu areas.
Locals have expressed concerns over threats and interrogations from soldiers who are occupying homes in the villages, creating a climate of fear.
The Kagabu People’s Force (KPF) announced on January 16 that they anticipate launching attacks in the Putao region soon, urging residents to stay informed about military developments and prepare food supplies in advance.
Putao District encompasses Putao, Machanbaw, Kaunglanphu, Naungmon, and Swamparabum townships. In May 2024, KIA and allied groups successfully captured Swamparabum Township.

๐ฉ๐ฉ 3. Intense Fighting Near Tamu Between Junta Forces and Resistance Troops
January 30
Severe clashes between junta troops and resistance forces are ongoing near Tamu in Sagaing Region, with junta forces receiving air support, according to local sources.
Since January 27, revolutionary forces have launched attacks on junta strongholds in Kyunpintha and Mintha villages within Tamu Township. The fighting intensified until January 29.
The junta, including forces from Ka Thae, SNA, and the Naga People's Army, has deployed about 600 troops in the Kyunpintha and Mintha areas.
According to Tamu Indepth News, junta forces mistakenly fired upon their own troops during airstrikes near Mintha, causing multiple fatalities among their ranks.
The People's Defense Forces (PDF) in Sagaing Region, district-based allied forces, and the Kuki National Army-B (KNA-B) are jointly conducting offensive operations against junta positions.
Local news sources, including Khonumthung, reported that capturing Tamu would require taking control of key military bases in Kyunpintha, Mintha, Bantha, and Hae Zin.
To prevent losing control of Tamu, junta forces have ramped up air reinforcements.
Tamu District, located near the Indian border in western Sagaing, comprises Tamu, Myothit, and Khampat townships. Resistance forces already control Myothit and Khampat, leading to continued offensives aimed at capturing Tamu itself.
The ongoing battles have prompted some residents to flee Tamu since early January, though many remain in the town despite the escalating situation.
