๐๐ 1. Union-Level Natural Resources Management Committee Meeting (1/2025) Led by Prime Minister Mann Win Khaing Than

The Union-Level Natural Resources Management Committee convened its (1/2025) meeting on January 29, 2025, led by Prime Minister Mann Win Khaing Than.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation and the Ministry of Electricity and Energy, both responsible for managing natural resources, must ensure systematic and disciplined operations. He further highlighted the importance of resource management committees operating safely within their respective regions.
The Prime Minister stated, "The coordinated efforts of the People's Defense Forces (PDFs), People's Administrative Bodies, and Security Committees are essential to implement policies effectively and ensure safe operational practices. Thus, the Ministries of Defense and Home Affairs must provide vigilant oversight and cooperation."
Attending the meeting were the committee chair (Prime Minister), deputy chairpersons, and members from various ministries, including Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, Home Affairs, Defense, Planning, Finance and Investment, Electricity and Energy. Union ministers, deputy ministers, permanent secretaries, and officials from the Prime Minister's Office and the secretariat participated as well.

During the January 30 meeting of the Interim Regional People's Administrative Implementation Central Committee, Prime Minister Mann Win Khaing Than called for efficient governance mechanisms during the ongoing revolutionary period.
The Prime Minister stated, "It is crucial that the committee effectively executes its decisions and ensures timely implementation of upcoming tasks. Although we face numerous challenges and daily issues, achieving efficient governance for the people during this revolutionary period will make our collective efforts worthwhile."
The committee members presented updates on the progress of tasks decided in meeting (4/2025) and discussed pending initiatives and future plans. The session included detailed discussions and assessments led by the Prime Minister, along with union ministers, deputy ministers, permanent secretaries, and department officials.

๐๐ 3. Discussions on the Second Draft of Sagaing Federal Unit Interim Constitution

On January 30, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., representatives from the Sagaing Federal Unit and its Parliament convened a virtual meeting via the Zoom platform.
The meeting was attended by five key groups, including:
Representatives elected in the 2020 election
CDM (Civil Disobedience Movement) personnel
Ethnic groups and respected community leaders
Political party representatives
Members of the Sagaing Forum Federation and resistance groups
Officials from the People's Administrative Committees and the People's Defense Forces also participated, alongside the chairperson, vice-chairpersons, and other representatives from the Sagaing Federal Unit Parliament.
Discussions focused on the objectives of the meeting and the upcoming processes regarding the second draft of the Sagaing Federal Unit Interim Constitution.

๐๐ 4. NUG Successfully Opens Liaison Office in Timor-Leste by 2024

The National Unity Government (NUG) successfully established its liaison office in Timor-Leste in 2024, according to confirmed reports.
At a press briefing held in the final week of January, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs Daw Zin Mar Aung confirmed the news and expressed gratitude to the President of Timor-Leste for supporting Myanmar’s cause.
Currently, the NUG has also successfully opened liaison offices in South Korea, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Australia, Norway, and France.

๐๐ 5. Extension of Recognition for Interim Public Basic Education Schools

On January 30, the Ministry of Education announced an updated list of schools granted extensions as recognized interim public basic education schools.
According to the evaluation and assessment department, the Tampe Nyo Union School and the Kanko Kyarsat Free Education School were granted recognition after demonstrating satisfactory compliance with the eleven principles of public education school recognition policy and the Information and Technology Security Guidelines. The Ministry also indicated that the release of lists for other schools currently under review would continue.

๐๐ 6. Suspension of U.S. Scholarships for Myanmar Students

Due to extensive aid being provided to Myanmar, the Department of Government Efficiency led by Elon Musk announced the suspension of scholarships for Myanmar students under an order from former President Donald Trump.
The suspended programs include the USAID DISP initiative, which encompasses Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, and Accessibility initiatives. These scholarships prioritized international educational opportunities for underrepresented groups, ordinary citizens, and ethnic minorities in Myanmar, particularly current and future community leaders.
Under President Joe Biden's administration, a program worth USD 45 million was allocated for Myanmar students, funding bachelor's, master’s, doctoral degrees, and certificate programs over five years. Approximately 800 students were set to benefit from these scholarships aimed at fostering Myanmar's educational development.
As of January 15, the decision to prioritize the suspension of these scholarships was officially announced.

๐๐ 7. Sexual Harassment of Political Prisoners’ Families by Officials at Kalay Prison

The Political Prisoners Network of Myanmar (PPNM) reported that prison officials at Kalay Prison, namely Prison Warden Aung Moe Htine and Security Officer Han Win Aung, engaged in acts of sexual harassment against family members of political detainees.
A specific incident involved the warden making inappropriate phone calls to the wife of a political prisoner, asking her to stay with him while making sexually inappropriate remarks. Reports suggest that similar harassment was directed at other women relatives of political detainees.
Moreover, it was revealed that prison officials contacted these women to solicit financial contributions and valuables, including watches and travel expenses.
The PPNM condemned these incidents as gross violations of human rights and ethical standards, affirming their commitment to documenting these abuses and seeking justice and accountability.

๐๐ 8. Peace Prayers for Myanmar at PIME Headquarters Garden, Milan, Italy

On January 29, the PIME organization hosted a multi-faith peace prayer event at their headquarters garden in Milan, Italy. Myanmar Buddhists and young students from diverse nationalities and faiths participated in the gathering.
Given the ongoing hardships following the February 1, 2021, military coup, which has led to immense loss and displacement in Myanmar, participants recited Metta Sutta (Loving-kindness Sutra) and prayed for peace and harmony. They expressed wishes for Myanmar citizens to attain peace alongside the world.
