๐ฉ๐ฉ 1. KIA Claims Further Capture of SAC 21st Operations Command Posts in Bhamo and Downing of Junta Drones
March 16
The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has announced that it has successfully seized additional military posts under the 21st Operations Command Headquarters in Bhamo, Kachin State. Additionally, the KIA reported that it managed to shoot down several drones belonging to the junta.
KIA and allied forces have been conducting daily assaults to completely capture the 21st Operations Command Headquarters. This latest development was disclosed in a statement released on the night of March 15.
The junta forces in Bhamo’s 21st Operations Command base are facing heavy casualties due to the continuous offensive by KIA and allied forces. In response, the junta has deployed airstrikes using both drones and fighter jets in an attempt to defend the base.
Since December 4, 2024, KIA and its allies have been engaged in an offensive to seize Bhamo, successfully capturing strategic military positions, including artillery, armored units, mechanized infantry, and infantry bases. However, battles are still ongoing for remaining outposts, including Infantry Battalion 47 and the 21st Operations Command Headquarters.
KIA’s Information Department has also reported on junta military movements and forced recruitment activities in Kachin State. Additionally, on March 14, the junta-affiliated Min Zay Than People’s Militia set fire to at least ten houses in Warazup and Namsai villages along the Tanai-Ledo road. The junta later launched two airstrikes and attacked these villages with drones and heavy artillery, while the Min Zay Than militia attempted a ground assault. KIA forces engaged them in a defensive battle.
Due to heavy casualties on the Min Zay Than militia side, junta-affiliated forces resorted to burning civilian homes and intensified their forced recruitment efforts targeting local youth.
Moreover, in Mogaung, Mohnyin, and Namti areas, the Shan Ni Army (SNA) and junta forces have been conducting military movements and forced recruitment campaigns. Reports indicate that junta and SNA forces are forcibly conscripting one person per household, even entering homes to detain individuals.
Meanwhile, the junta is reinforcing its military strength in Myitkyina’s Laman Zup area and the Putao region.
