๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 1. Two Civilians Killed in Airstrike by Military Council in Kawkareik

March 21 – The Karen National Union (KNU) in Dooplaya District announced today that two civilians were killed in an airstrike carried out by the military council in Kawkareik Township, Dooplaya District.

According to the statement, the airstrike occurred on March 19 in the afternoon when a military council aircraft bombed Tablu Kho Khee Village, despite there being no ongoing clashes in the area.

The attack resulted in the deaths of two men, aged 36 and 30, and also caused damage to houses and other buildings in the village.

The KNU further stated that the military council has been deliberately targeting non-military sites, including religious buildings, hospitals, clinics, and schools, as well as civilian residential areas.

The military council has been conducting aerial assaults in Kawkareik, within KNU’s Brigade 6 territory, while also attacking Kyaikhto Township, located in Brigade 1 territory, using drones and heavy artillery on March 15 and 16, despite no active clashes there. Additionally, on March 17, the military shelled Kyaukkyi Township in Nyaunglebin District, Brigade 3 territory, resulting in civilian injuries and damage to homes.

According to the KNU’s central command, the military council has been striving to maintain control over Myawaddy and the Kawkareik-Myawaddy section of the Asian Highway. Amidst ongoing clashes between the military’s Aung Zeya column and the joint revolutionary forces since late February, the military has been intensifying attacks on civilian areas rather than engaging in direct combat.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 4. KNDF Announces Temporary Closure of Loikaw-Hsihseng Road Due to Potential Clashes

March 21

The Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) Brigade 2 has announced a temporary closure of the Loikaw-Hsihseng Road, warning that clashes could break out at any time. The announcement, issued on March 20, urges the public to avoid using this route for safety reasons.

According to the statement, the Myanmar military junta has been actively conducting military operations along the Loikaw-Hsihseng Road using various tactics, making the security situation highly volatile. As a result, combat engagements could occur at any moment.

Due to this escalating military tension, the Loikaw-Hsihseng Road has been indefinitely closed since March 20. Both small and large vehicles, as well as travelers, are advised to suspend their journeys along this route until further notice. The KNDF also urged the public to adhere to safety warnings.

A public update will be issued when the road becomes safe for travel again. However, the KNDF emphasized that it would not be held responsible for any consequences arising from individuals failing to comply with this warning.

The junta has been reinforcing its military presence in Hsihseng, located in southern Shan State, and has been conducting aerial bombardments in the area.

Currently, there are two main routes connecting southern Shan State to Karenni State: the Hsihseng-Loikaw Road and the Pinlaung-Phekhon-Mawchi-Loikaw Road. Meanwhile, heavy clashes have been ongoing in Mobye, a key town on the second route.

In Mobye, intense battles are raging between the junta forces and revolutionary troops. The military is conducting airstrikes and deploying heavy artillery and drones, leading to widespread destruction of civilian homes on a near-daily basis, according to local sources.
