On April 13 (Sunday), a Myanmar New Year celebration was held under the theme "Hopeful and Harmonious Thingyan" at the historic Casa Cervi, a symbolic site of Italy’s anti-fascist resistance and democratic liberation. The event was jointly organized by the Istituto Alcide Cervi, Museo Cervi, Associazione per l'Amicizia Italia-Birmania, and the Myanmar Community in Italy to express solidarity between the peoples of Italy and Myanmar.

Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the National Unity Government (NUG), Daw Zin Mar Aung, and Union Minister for Education and Health, Dr. Zaw Wai Soe, attended the event and delivered speeches. President of the Cervi Institute, Albertina Soliani, also addressed the gathering. The celebration included a heartfelt New Year blessing ceremony for the people of Myanmar.

Following the formal program, a fundraising fair was held featuring Italian and Myanmar cuisine, sales of memorabilia, a traditional thanaka showcase, and cultural performances including traditional music and dance. The event saw active participation and contributions from students, members of ethnic Myanmar communities, and many Italian friends from various regions of the country.

The meeting, held in April, brought together township-level officers from the Ministry of Women, Youth, and Children’s Affairs, regional civil society organizations, and women’s groups. The Union Minister addressed the participants, emphasizing the ministry’s ongoing efforts in preparation and response to the mental health and psychosocial needs of those impacted, particularly women and young children.

Union Minister Daw Khin Ma Ma Myo attended Revolutionary Thingyan fundraising events held in London and Manchester, United Kingdom. It was reported that these efforts raised over USD 100,000.

The events did not include festive Thingyan songs or dance performances out of respect for the ongoing crisis in Myanmar. Instead, attendees participated in multi-faith prayer ceremonies and observed a one-minute moment of silence in honor of those who lost their lives in the revolution and recent earthquake.

As these events were held during a designated Week of National Mourning and Solidarity for Myanmar, attendees dressed in black and wore black mourning ribbons on their chests as a mark of respect and unity.

The National Unity Government (NUG), through its Ministry of Health and CDM (Civil Disobedience Movement) healthcare workers, has provided medical assistance to earthquake-affected civilians in an unspecified township within the Mandalay Region, according to a statement.

The assistance follows the devastating earthquake centered in Sagaing City, which struck in the afternoon of March 28 and resulted in the deaths of thousands of people. In the immediate aftermath, the NUG launched emergency response and rescue operations to address the crisis.

The NUG had allocated a total of one million US dollars for the earthquake response. Of that amount, over USD 143,000 has already been used for direct relief efforts for affected civilians.

The funds will be swiftly directed to those affected by the disaster to ensure timely assistance, the group stated.

During the fundraising event held in Berlin, Germany, heartfelt messages of encouragement were delivered in support of the people of Myanmar, who are currently facing multiple crises. The organizing group also expressed special thanks to teacher Ma Thida (Sanchaung) for her moving speech that resonated deeply with attendees and fulfilled the group’s call for solidarity.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 6. Japanese Government Approves Emergency Aid Supplies Including Water Tanks and Rescue Tents for Myanmar Earthquake Victims

In response to the recent earthquake in central Myanmar, which caused significant loss and forced many to flee their homes, the Japanese government has approved the provision of emergency relief supplies—including water storage tanks and rescue tents.

These items will be delivered under Japan’s “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects” and its cooperation program for environmental safety, according to the Embassy of Japan in Yangon.

The emergency supplies are intended for displaced individuals currently taking refuge in monastic schools across the Mandalay Region. The assistance aims to ensure that monks, nuns, students, and young children residing in these temporary shelters can live in safe, healthy, and hygienic conditions.
