The appeal letter, dated April 14, outlines the human cost and catastrophic consequences of the military’s ongoing seizure of power, now entering its 49th month. According to the letter, over 6,000 civilians have been killed, more than 28,000 have been arbitrarily arrested, tortured, and subjected to ill-treatment, and approximately 3.5 million people have been forcibly displaced from their homes due to the junta’s widespread violence.
The Ambassador also reported that the military regime had launched aerial and heavy artillery attacks on earthquake-affected regions, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
In light of these atrocities, the letter calls for urgent international measures against the military junta, including the immediate imposition of sanctions to cut financial flows, the cessation of arms sales, and the ban on jet fuel exports that enable the junta's airstrikes.
