April 28
Radio NUG
During the Myanmar Traditional Thingyan Festival and Spring Revolution Fundraising Fair held in Norway, more than 100,000 Norwegian Kroner was raised to be donated to areas in Myanmar currently in urgent need, according to Ma Wut Mhone Win, Secretary of the Norway CRPH Support Group, speaking to Radio NUG.
“We understand how deeply saddened everyone is due to the earthquakes and the hardships they have caused in Myanmar. We grieve together. At the same time, we wanted to make visible our continued efforts to break free from the oppression of the military dictatorship. That is why we worked so hard to organize this event," she said.
"Moreover, because art can reach directly into people’s hearts, we fully utilized artistic expression during the event. We portrayed both the struggles caused by natural disasters and the severe hardships from bombings through video presentations. A photo exhibition was also held," she added.
The theme of the event was titled "Still We Rise," inspired by a suggestion from an art designer based in Mae Sot. Ma Wut Mhone Win further explained, “He helped conceptualize and design the artwork to represent the struggles and resilience of the Myanmar people.”
Large posters featuring this theme were displayed, along with paintings created by Norwegian youth in 2022 that depicted the situation in Myanmar.
“Our main message is that no matter what hardships we endure, our revolution remains alive and thriving. We are growing stronger, more resilient, and more determined. Under the 'Still We Rise' theme, we are also preparing to launch more posters, postcards, and songs," she added, noting that all designs are being produced by the Mae Sot-based art designer.
Dignitaries from the Municipality of Mjøndalen and representatives from various NGOs attended the event. It was praised as a "perfect festival," successfully delivering its intended messages.
Additionally, the fair featured the introduction of a newly developed Myanmar Character Set (similar to the Scrabble game) intended to support Myanmar language learning among children living abroad. This educational tool was invented and produced by U Maung Maung Myint. It was showcased at the fundraising event, and pre-orders are now being accepted.
Traditional Thingyan dances, songs, and performances were part of the festivities alongside the fundraising fair, combining cultural celebration with solidarity fundraising efforts.
