April 6 — Radio NUG
The Arakan Army (AA) has gained full control over the strategic Nyaung Kyoke Base Hill in Bago Region, according to a statement released by the AA Info Desk.
The assault on the base began on March 17 and, after 16 days of continuous operations, the AA succeeded in fully capturing the position on April 2.
Despite having the opportunity to continue attacking the retreating junta troops, the AA reportedly halted further offensives out of respect for its own ceasefire declaration, thereby demonstrating adherence to its own public commitments.
Following the junta’s own ceasefire announcement on April 2, their forces launched continued attacks on April 3, 4, and 5. Naval bases at Thitpot Taung and Dote Tan Taung, along with Infantry Battalion No. 32 and ground forces, carried out artillery and drone strikes on multiple villages in Kyaukphyu Township, including Kyattain, Thapyutaung, Pyadaye, Pyinshay, Laipkhamaw, Kula Bar, and Hinkhapin. These assaults included the use of naval ships, fighter jets, heavy artillery, and air-dropped bombs.
On April 5 alone, over 60 drone bomb drops and at least 50 artillery strikes were reported. Min Hla Village in Sittwe Township was bombed twice by junta drones on the same day, according to reports.
At around 3:45 PM on April 5, a Y-12 fighter jet conducted a bombing run targeting a location where AA troops were stationed along the Rakhine mountain range.
Despite suffering casualties and injuries from these ground, naval, and aerial assaults, the AA has issued no counterattacks and has reportedly maintained strict compliance with its ceasefire declaration.
