๐ฉ๐ฉ 1. Revolutionary Joint Forces Capture Entire In Taung Town
April 8
In Taung town, located near the northern Sagaing region and the border with Kachin State, has been completely captured by the forces under the National Unity Government (NUG) and the student army ABSDF, after nearly eight months of continuous assault, according to a report by Myanmar Now.
On the evening of April 7, at around 8:00 PM, the Revolutionary Joint Forces seized the last remaining junta position in the town — the Japanese Bunker Hill — thereby securing full control over In Taung, a frontline source told the outlet.
“It’s true, we captured it last night. A large number of junta troops surrendered and abandoned their weapons. Today, the area was hit by several airstrikes throughout the day, so there were casualties on both sides,” the source said.
During the battle, junta forces launched airstrikes using jet fighters and Y-12 aircraft, according to some local residents.
On April 1, the Revolutionary Joint Forces had already engaged junta troops as they moved out from the Japanese Bunker Hill, launching an offensive that led to the annihilation of the advancing column and allowed for the subsequent capture of the hill.
“When they launched the offensive, we pushed them back and fought our way in, advancing from the direction of the main monastery and Shoung Tawmhu Pagoda hill. After that, we took control of the Japanese Bunker Hill as well,” the source explained.
The Japanese Bunker Hill lies immediately east of In Taung and is a key strategic elevation that connects east to west. From this hill, one can dominate both the town of In Taung and the Shwebo–Myitkyina highway.
Apart from the military encampment, the hill also housed a monastery and several other religious buildings.
Revolutionary forces launched their offensive on In Taung on August 16 of last year. After nearly two months, they managed to seize all urban neighborhoods, leaving only the Japanese Bunker Hill under junta control.
Following the fall of the hill, numerous junta soldiers reportedly surrendered, and various weapons and ammunition were seized. However, exact quantities have not yet been disclosed, according to the frontline source.
The operation to seize the final junta outpost was carried out jointly by the ABSDF, Sagaing Region Special Battalion (1) (SR-1), and troops under the NUG’s Military Region (1).
In Taung lies about 27 miles from Nan Si Aung, a key gateway to Kachin State, and is located on the strategically important Shwebo–Myitkyina highway. Despite heavy resistance, junta troops were ultimately unable to hold the town.
In December 2023, the nearby town of Maw Lu, located about 20 miles north of In Taung, was also captured by the ABSDF and allied forces.
The Revolutionary Joint Forces, including ethnic armed organizations such as the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), continue to launch coordinated offensives against junta forces in Mandalay and Sagaing regions.
In Mandalay Region, towns such as Singu, Thabeikkyin, and Tagaung have been seized by MDY-PDF and allied units. In Sagaing Region, towns such as Kanbalu, Shwe Pyi Aye, and Pinlebu have also fallen under the control of NUG-aligned forces.

๐ฉ๐ฉ 3. Junta Conscription for Batch 12 Sparks Widespread Intimidation and Bribery in Yangon and Karen State
April 8
In Yangon Region and Karen State, the junta has been coercively selecting young men for Conscription Batch 12, and widespread reports have emerged of officials demanding bribes to avoid military service.
According to reports from Yangon Khit Thit Media, young men selected through the conscription lottery who do not wish to serve — or who wish to defer — are being asked to pay 1.5 million kyats per person, while those not selected are still being extorted for 80,000 kyats per household.
On April 5, in Yangon’s East Dagon Township, Ward 11, local administration teams appointed by the junta went door to door forcing young men to draw lots for conscription. During this process, it was reported that two young men were selected, one from Tapinshwehti Road and another from Ayeyarwady Road.
“If selected and you don’t want to join the military, they demand 1.5 million kyats per person. If not selected, you still have to pay 80,000 kyats. They’re collecting money via female ward assistants, not showing up themselves. They’re calling it the ‘10-parent team,’” said a local resident.
In Thaketa Township, the junta's local conscription mobilization teams have been delivering formal summonses to collect lists of eligible youth, according to residents speaking with Yangon Khit Thit.
The deadline to submit the list of eligible young men is reportedly April 10. The lists are being collected and delivered by ward-level administrators.
Similarly, in Hpa-an, Karen State, local administrative officials appointed by the junta have also begun conscription selection for Batch 12, starting in Ward 1 on April 6, led by a former police officer named Soe Myint.
“There are nine wards in Hpa-an. Starting April 6, they began selecting names in Ward 1. They threatened that those who flee will have their homes sealed and could face three years in prison. The conscription drive is being spearheaded in Hpa-an by Soe Myint, a hardcore supporter of MaBaTha,” said a local resident.
This report was submitted by Radio NUG correspondent Nway Oo Shwe Wha and Min Thihan.
