๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 1. NLD Urges International Action Against Min Aung Hlaing's Junta for Ceasefire Violations

May 15

The Central Working Committee of the National League for Democracy (NLD) has called on the international community, including the United Nations and ASEAN, to take action against the military junta led by Min Aung Hlaing for repeatedly violating ceasefire announcements.

According to the NLD, Min Aung Hlaing’s junta has breached declared ceasefires and has instead continued to launch deliberate attacks against large numbers of civilian populations.

The committee urged, in the name of humanity, the United Nations, ASEAN, and the broader international community to intervene and take action to halt the junta’s ongoing perpetration of crimes against humanity and war crimes—including mass killings and other brutal violations committed against civilians.

It noted that after the powerful earthquake on March 28, revolutionary forces had declared a temporary ceasefire in the quake-affected regions to facilitate humanitarian assistance and recovery efforts.

Although the junta had also announced on April 2 that it would suspend military operations, it has continued to carry out airstrikes, artillery shelling, arson attacks, and systematic torture of political prisoners detained unlawfully in various prisons, including those in earthquake-affected areas and throughout Myanmar, the NLD stated.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 2. Junta Attacks During Ceasefire Leave 182 Civilians Dead and Nearly 300 Injured

May 15

The National League for Democracy (NLD) Central Working Committee has reported that, despite a declared ceasefire, 182 civilians were killed and approximately 300 others injured due to violent attacks by the junta’s armed forces.

According to records collected by the NLD’s Human Rights Documentation Committee, from April 3 to May 13, the military council carried out 181 airstrikes across 11 states and regions of Myanmar.

Among the 182 civilians killed were 34 children under the age of 18. Of the 298 reported injured, 76 were under 18 as well.

The statement highlights that the regions most heavily affected by the junta’s attacks were Mandalay Region and Sagaing Region, both of which had already been severely impacted by the recent earthquake.

The NLD clarified that these figures were based on data gathered to the best of the committee’s ability and warned that actual numbers on the ground may be significantly higher.

It reiterated its appeal to the international community—especially the United Nations and ASEAN—to act urgently, in the name of humanity, to halt and hold accountable the Min Aung Hlaing-led junta for its systematic violations of ceasefire commitments and targeted attacks on civilians.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 6. SAC-M: China’s Two-Faced Interference in Myanmar Prolongs Suffering and Undermines Genuine Peace

May 15

China's duplicitous interference in Myanmar’s internal affairs is prolonging the suffering of the Myanmar people and obstructing genuine peace and stability, the Special Advisory Council for Myanmar (SAC-M) said on May 15.

Although China frequently reiterates its official stance of non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign nations, its interventions in northern Shan State clearly prioritize its own self-interest, SAC-M pointed out.

SAC-M stated that these actions are damaging prospects for genuine peace and stability for the people of Myanmar.

The Council further criticized the case of Lashio as a direct example of China’s interference in one of the conflicts that escalated following the military coup attempt in February 2021. According to SAC-M, this incident exemplifies China's overt influence in Myanmar’s conflict dynamics.

SAC-M also condemned the decision by the Kokang armed group (MNDAA) to hand over Lashio to the military junta, stating that it amounted to a betrayal of the sacrifices made by the many revolutionaries who gave their lives for the city’s liberation.

China’s military assistance to the brutal junta, coupled with its duplicitous political interference, will not be able to save the regime, SAC-M declared. Instead, these actions will only extend the suffering endured by the Myanmar public and delay the attainment of genuine peace.

The Council warned that the fall of the junta is inevitable, and when that time comes, the people of Myanmar will clearly remember which side China stood on.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 7. France and Canada Condemn Military Airstrike on School in Dipeyin Township

May 15

France and Canada have issued strong condemnations following the Myanmar military’s airstrike on a school in Dipeyin Township, Sagaing Region.

According to a statement released on May 14 via the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, France strongly condemns the attack on the school by the Myanmar military.

France emphasized that this brutal incident directly violates the military’s own declared ceasefire and constitutes yet another mass killing of civilians. It highlighted that such actions reflect the junta’s indiscriminate bombing strategy, which has continued in areas recently struck by devastating earthquakes.

France expressed condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims and affirmed its unwavering solidarity with the people of Myanmar.

The statement also urged all parties to respect international humanitarian law, end violence, and engage in dialogue to resolve the conflict.

Similarly, the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep shock over the incident, stating that children and teachers were killed in an airstrike during the ceasefire period.

Canada offered heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims affected by what it called a senseless and inhumane tragedy.

The Canadian government further called on the junta to de-escalate its violent campaign, protect civilians, and abide by international law.

On the morning of May 12, the junta's air force carried out an aerial bombardment on the school in Oe Tain Twin Village, Dipeyin Township. The attack resulted in over 20 casualties, with current death toll figures reaching at least 24.
