๐๐ 1. Two Killed by Falling Tree at Earthquake Relief Camp in Mandalay

Two individuals were killed when a tamarind tree fell at an earthquake relief camp in Mandalay, according to a statement issued by the Fire Services Department.
The incident occurred in the early morning of May 18 at the Shwe Gu Monastery in the Aphyayar Yama area, located at the intersection of 41st and 89th Streets in Maha Aung Myay Township. The monastery had been operating as a relief shelter for those affected by the earthquake. The fallen tamarind tree was approximately 40 feet tall with a trunk circumference of 5 feet. A man and a woman lost their lives in the accident.
It was reported that the tree collapsed onto a temporary shelter after prolonged rainfall.
Rescue teams responded overnight to remove the fallen tree, and the deceased were transported to the Mandalay General Hospital by a social assistance organization using an ambulance.
Following the powerful earthquake that struck Mandalay on March 28, many residents whose homes were destroyed have not yet been able to rebuild and continue to take refuge in temporary shelters. The falling tree incident marks yet another hardship for these earthquake survivors.

The Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) has called on all doctors and healthcare workers at Lukkar Hospital to continue their dedication and resilience until the revolution is successfully achieved.
This call was made in a statement commemorating the third anniversary of the hospital’s founding—a facility that emerged amid immense challenges.
On the occasion of the hospital’s third founding anniversary, observed on May 17, KNDF extended wishes for peace of mind, good health, and safety from all forms of danger to all the doctors and staff of the hospital.
The statement also expressed appreciation for the unwavering commitment of both senior and trainee doctors, as well as healthcare workers, who have been providing medical care with genuine altruism, prioritizing the interests of the revolution and the people above personal gain or pride.
KNDF also acknowledged and thanked all the donors and responsible individuals who have supported the establishment and successful management of the Lukkar Hospital as a people-serving institution.
Furthermore, the KNDF reaffirmed its commitment to stand alongside Lukkar Hospital until the collective political goals of the revolution are realized.

๐๐ 3. New York-Based Sri Lankan Buddhist Temple Donates USD 6,000 to Earthquake Victims in Myanmar

The New York Buddhist Vihara, a Sri Lankan Buddhist temple based in New York City, has donated USD 6,000 to support people in Myanmar affected by the recent earthquake, according to Myanmar's Permanent Mission to the United Nations.
The donation was made by the monks of the New York Buddhist Vihara on May 14.
The contribution was aimed at aiding victims of the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that recently struck Myanmar, bringing severe natural disaster impacts to the region. The donation was officially received by Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun, Myanmar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun noted that, at a time when the people of Myanmar are already suffering under an unjust military coup, the additional impact of a powerful earthquake has compounded their hardship, forcing them to face even more severe challenges and adversity.
He expressed gratitude on behalf of the people of Myanmar for the timely support and affirmed that the funds would be delivered through the National Unity Government (NUG) to ensure they reach those most in need of assistance.
It was also reported that the USD 6,000 donation from the monks of the New York Buddhist Vihara was transferred on May 16 to the bank account of the organization “Funds for Future,” as managed by Myanmar’s Permanent Mission to the UN.
