Karen armed resistance forces seized a military junta base located near the Thai-Myanmar border on May 20, according to a report by Thai news outlet Enquirer, as cited by People's Spring.
The base, reportedly belonging to Light Infantry Battalion 24 (LIB-24) of the military council and situated in Hpa-an District of Karen State, was overrun by armed wings of the Karen National Union (KNU)—namely, the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the Karen National Defence Organization (KNDO). The Enquirer reported that the base is located across the border from Mae Tan Subdistrict in Tha Song Yang District of Tak Province, Thailand.
The KNU launched a heavy offensive throughout the night, eventually capturing the base in the morning of May 20. Military junta troops reportedly abandoned the post and fled in disarray.
Thai border forces were said to be monitoring the situation along the border closely to detect whether any fleeing Myanmar military personnel might have crossed into Thai territory.
The KNU stated that approximately 27 junta soldiers crossed the Thaungyin River and fled into Thailand. During the seizure of the base, Karen forces captured the following weapons and ammunition: 24 rifles, one pistol, one 60mm mortar, sixty 5.56mm magazines, one pistol magazine, and one 88mm mortar.
As a result of the fighting, 241 Myanmar civilians fled across the border and sought temporary refuge in Thailand. Thai authorities reported that these displaced persons have been provided with shelter and humanitarian assistance in Mae Tan Subdistrict.

๐ฉ๐ฉ 3. Indonesia’s Richest Tycoon Sold Over Two Million Barrels of Oil Worth More Than USD 150 Million to Support Myanmar Junta, Justice For Myanmar Reveals
May 20
Indonesia’s wealthiest businessman, Armand Apta Widjaja, has sold more than two million barrels of oil valued at over USD 150 million to the Myanmar military junta, Justice For Myanmar (JFM) has revealed.
Although Widjaja recently divested his shares in the company supplying aviation fuel to the junta, Justice For Myanmar noted that his decades-long involvement in unethical business activities means he cannot be easily absolved of responsibility.
One of his key business holdings is Interra Resources Ltd., a Singapore-listed company that owns a 60% stake in Goldpetrol Joint Operating Company Inc.. Widjaja served as Chairman of Interra Resources for nearly two decades, up to 2023, and reportedly maintained business ties with successive Myanmar military regimes.
According to JFM, Goldpetrol supplied over two million barrels of oil worth more than USD 150 million to the junta from January 2021 through the end of 2023. This fuel directly facilitated the junta's war crimes and ongoing violent repression.
Furthermore, JFM reports that the remaining 40% of Goldpetrol is owned by a subsidiary of the Chinese state-owned arms manufacturer NORINCO, which has supplied weapons to the Myanmar junta.
This report was compiled and submitted by Radio NUG correspondents Nway Oo Shwe Wha and Tharki.
