📌📌 1. Joint Statement by State and Federal Unit Parliaments and Parliamentary Representative Committees Calling for the Unconditional and Immediate Release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and All Political Prisoners

June 17

On June 17, State and Federal Unit Parliaments, along with Parliamentary Representative Committees, jointly issued a statement urging the unconditional and immediate release of the public leader, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, along with all political prisoners.

The statement notes that this declaration was issued in commemoration of the 80th birthday of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and leader of the people, which falls on June 19, 2025.

According to the joint statement, due to the illegal actions of the military junta, which seized power unlawfully, the entire country—its people and its democratic institutions—has been forced onto a precarious path toward democracy. People across all regions—highlands, plains, rural and urban areas—are enduring severe and widespread suffering. Moreover, the future of the Union remains uncertain and deeply worrisome.

The statement emphasizes a firm belief that the survival of democracy and the establishment of a federal union—an aspiration collectively held by the entire population of Myanmar—is a vital political process for the country’s future.

To achieve democracy and build a federal union in Myanmar, it is imperative to establish a political environment that all key stakeholders, including ethnic leaders, can agree upon. The foundation for making such a political process possible lies in the unconditional and immediate release of all political prisoners, including the revered public leader and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Daw Aung San Suu Kyi—someone in whom the people place deep trust, respect, and belief.

The statement concludes by calling, in one voice, for the unconditional and immediate release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners, as a foundational step toward a meaningful and inclusive political resolution for the future of the Union.
