๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 1. At least 10 civilians, including children, killed in airstrike by junta in Naung Pain Village, Kyaukme Township

At around 9:30 a.m. on August 20, the Myanmar military council carried out an airstrike using a jet fighter, dropping bombs twice near a pagoda in Naung Pain Village, Kyaukme Township, Shan State, and continued firing with heavy weapons, according to an SSPP/SSA statement.

The attack reportedly caused bombs to explode in the village fields and near a monastery.

The Shan State Progress Party/Shan State Army (SSPP/SSA) stated that as a result of the airstrike, at least 10 local civilians, including children, were killed, and 12 others were injured.

Currently, residents of Naung Pain and nearby villages — including Zi Pin, Pin Pauk, Pin Tain, Pin Tee, Kyaung Kone, Phi Thit, Khe Nin, and Lwe Kon — are fleeing and taking refuge due to the junta’s continuous drone and heavy artillery attacks.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 2. Roads in Kanpetlet Township temporarily closed, CDF-Kanpetlet announces

The Chinland Defense Force – Kanpetlet (CDF-Kanpetlet) has announced the temporary closure of several roads, including the Swel Lwek Kyin–Kyindwe road, Saw–Kanpetlet road, as well as routes entering Kanpetlet Township from Magway Region.

On August 16, the junta’s election commission announced that it would hold elections even in 63 townships controlled by NUG and ethnic revolutionary forces, including the Chin Brotherhood (CB).

Following this, reports emerged that about 800 junta troops from Infantry Battalion 25 in Laung Shay, 400 reinforcements from Seikphyu, and a military convoy from Pakokku Township’s Infantry Battalion 101 (with two tanks and 136 military vehicles) were advancing toward Mindat, Matupi, and Kanpetlet townships in Chin State.

As a result, CDF-Kanpetlet stated that all routes into and within Kanpetlet Township will remain closed until further notice.

They further warned that since the junta forces could launch an offensive at any time, civilians should remain vigilant, prepare in advance, dig bomb shelters and trenches, and take precautions against potential airstrikes.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 3. Junta armored vehicle destroyed by KIA in Bhamo Town

In Bhamo, Kachin State, during a clash on the afternoon of August 20, a military junta armored vehicle was destroyed by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) joint forces, according to Kachin military sources.

It was also reported that junta troops were continuing to fire inside Bhamo town using two armored vehicles.

Since early August, the junta has been transporting weapons and ammunition into Bhamo by military vessels, distributing them to remaining outposts under the No. 21 Military Operation Command Headquarters (MOC-21), which has resulted in more than two weeks of continuous clashes with the KIA.

Colonel Naw Buu, KIA spokesperson, told People’s Spring on the afternoon of August 20:

“Currently, we do not hold any captured bases inside Bhamo, nor have we abandoned any of our own bases. The photos being circulated online are old or fake.”

It was earlier reported that beginning on August 13, junta forces launched a major offensive with full strength near the Myitsone Hotel area in Bhamo, but KIA joint forces resisted fiercely. This resulted in four consecutive days of fighting, where over 60 junta soldiers were killed, and some junta units had to withdraw from parts of the town.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 4. Thaw Tha Village (Pyuu) base captured along with weapons, ammunition, cash, three junta corpses, and 190 family members of Pyuu leaders including Chief Ae Pan detained

On August 15, joint forces of Mawlaik District Battalions (2 and 4) and Fawngpyin Township People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) successfully attacked and seized the Thaw Tha Village (Pyuu Saw Htee) base in Mawlaik Township, Mawlaik District, Sagaing Region, where Pyuu militia members led by Chief Ae Pan were stationed. Mawlaik Township PDF also provided support during the operation, according to an official statement from Military Region No. (1).

During the capture of the Thaw Tha base, about 130 junta troops who had moved down the Chindwin River by fleet, along with around 50 troops from Taung In Village, attempted to reinforce by launching a counterattack against Inn Ta Paung Village. Despite this, the allied resistance forces successfully captured the Thaw Tha base.

In the battle, resistance forces seized 23 weapons including 60mm mortars and RPGs, some ammunition, and over 150 million kyats in cash.

In addition, three junta corpses were recovered, nine others were injured, and 190 family members of Pyuu leaders, including Chief Ae Pan, were captured. It was further reported that around 20 Pyuu Saw Htee members managed to flee.

During the fighting, a Yak-130 jet fighter from Tada-U Air Base carried out an airstrike by dropping two bombs, while junta naval vessels also launched drone bomb attacks, according to the statement.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 5. Junta’s No. 13 Military Officers’ Advanced Training School attacked with short-range rockets

On August 20, at around 12 noon, the No. 13 Military Officers’ Advanced Training School located at mile 7 in Thabeikkyin Township, Mandalay Region, was attacked with 107mm short-range rockets, according to Brave Warriors for Myanmar (BWM).

It was reported that 10 rockets were fired into the compound of No. 13 Training School, of which 9 successfully hit the target.

The attack was jointly carried out by Brave Warriors for Myanmar (BWM), No More Dictatorship (NMD-PDF), and Infinity (Anyar) group, with additional support from Mandalay Region artillery units and local resistance forces.

The No. 13 Training School is not only a critical military training facility in Mandalay Region Military Headquarters territory, where junta officers train battalions, companies, and platoons to conduct operations, but also serves as a junta garrison base from which attacks are launched on Thabeikkyin and Mogok. This was cited as the reason for the attack.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 6. 409 individuals, including two majors, defected to the people within seven months — Irrawaddy Regional Command and Strategic Operations Command (29) hold graduation ceremony

The National Unity Government (NUG) Ministry of Defense announced that between January 1 and July 31, 2025, a total of 409 individuals, including two majors, defected from the junta side to join the people under the People’s Embrace Program, coordinated by the Central Committee for People’s Embrace Implementation.

Among the 409 defectors, 179 brought weapons with them. These defectors were honored and given rewards based on the value of the weapons they surrendered, in line with NUG Ministry of Defense policy.

The 409 defectors included members of the military, police, junta’s conscripted service, and SNA forces. Of these, two majors, six lieutenant colonels, and one captain were among those who left the junta, which NUG noted demonstrates that even officers of high rank no longer wish to serve under the terrorist junta.

Therefore, NUG urged all soldiers and police — including those forcibly conscripted under the junta’s unlawful conscription orders and those who wish to side with the people — to contact the People’s Embrace Telegram channel @MyanmarPeople or the nearest PDFs, local defense forces, and allied ethnic resistance organizations to seek refuge under the People’s Embrace Program.

In addition, the NUG Ministry of Defense, People’s Defense Force, Operation Command No. (2), Irrawaddy Regional Command, and Strategic Operations Command (29) also held a graduation ceremony for the 6th weekly basic military training course, according to the announcement.
