πŸ“ŒπŸ“Œ 1. Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun Continues to Report on Myanmar’s Crisis to the United Nations

August 3

Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun, the Permanent Representative of Myanmar to the United Nations, has continued to submit reports on the current situation in Myanmar to UN leadership, according to an update shared by National Unity Government (NUG) Prime Minister Mahn Winn Khaing Thann via his social media platform.

This disclosure is in relation to Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun's recent letter, sent on July 31 to UN Secretary-General Mr. AntΓ³nio Guterres, detailing the ongoing human rights and humanitarian crisis in Myanmar.

The letter prominently highlighted the grave and heartbreaking circumstances in the country and included an attached report titled Information Update on the Current Situation in Myanmar, which contains the latest verified data up to June 30 of this year.

Additionally, it was reported that this letter and report were also sent to the President of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly, Mr. Dennis Francis, and to the permanent representatives of UN member states.

The report outlines in detail the Myanmar military’s brutal and inhumane actions, including 532 documented human rights violations against civilians in June alone—resulting in the deaths of at least 90 civilians, many due to airstrikes.

Furthermore, since the military coup, the report states that over 6,800 people have been killed and nearly 30,000 arrested as of June 2025.

Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun stressed in the letter that the international community must continue exposing the military’s heinous crimes against humanity and pursue international accountability and justice.

As the National Unity Government (NUG) is the legitimate government representing the will of the people, Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun’s ongoing efforts aim to amplify the voice of the Myanmar people on the international stage.

πŸ“ŒπŸ“Œ 2. KPPA Urges Loikaw Prison Authorities to Reopen Direct Visit Parcel System and Take Action Against Abuse of Inmates

August 3

The Karenni Political Prisoners Association (KPPA) has formally called on the Loikaw Prison authorities to reinstate the direct-person parcel delivery system and to take disciplinary action against those responsible for beating prisoners without cause.

According to a statement issued today, August 3, KPPA criticized the prison’s ban on inmates receiving food parcels and medications through in-person delivery, which has been in place for over a year and nine months.

Due to these restrictions, prisoners are suffering from inadequate nutrition and medical care, with many facing chronic illnesses, skin infections, physical deterioration, and even mental health issues—leading in some cases to death.

The KPPA’s statement includes eight key demands, including:

  • Immediate reinstatement of the direct-person parcel delivery system;
  • Full acceptance and delivery of food and medicine sent by families;
  • Timely transfer of emergency and chronically ill patients to outside hospitals;
  • Adequate medical supplies and healthcare inside the prison;
  • Emergency financial coverage by prison authorities for indigent inmates;
  • Weekly medical checkups inside the prison;
  • Restoration of full food rations and supplies for prisoners;
  • Investigation and punishment of prison staff extorting money from families;
  • An immediate halt to unlawful beatings and abuses, with accountability for perpetrators.

The KPPA emphasized that these measures must be implemented without delay for the sake of prisoners’ health, rights, and dignity.

πŸ“ŒπŸ“Œ 3. KRC Strongly Rejects the Military’s Sham Election Plan

August 3

The Karenni Emergency Rescue Committee (KRC) in Lwel Doe has issued a firm statement of opposition against the military junta’s planned election, denouncing it as a sham process designed to prolong the dictatorship and lacking any foundation in democratic federal principles.

In its August 2 statement, Lwel Doe KRC declared that the junta’s attempt to hold elections amidst widespread fear, displacement, and insecurity is nothing more than a tool to entrench authoritarian rule, not a step toward democratic reform.

Residents in Lwel Doe, located within KNU’s Hpruso District, continue to suffer daily human rights violations under military oppression, including threats to their physical safety and mental well-being.

The statement noted that, during June and July alone:

  • The military launched 15 drone attacks and fired 82 artillery shells, killing 7 civilians and injuring 17;
  • 5 individuals were arbitrarily arrested;
  • 16 homes, 2 schools, and 4 livestock animals were destroyed.

In addition, due to the impact of Cyclone Remal and subsequent flooding, over 28,000 residents from 80 villages have been affected, with 37 school dormitories submerged, disrupting education for more than 2,700 students.

Given the dire humanitarian and security situation, KRC declared its strong rejection of the junta's planned election, asserting it has no legitimacy or representation for the people of Lwel Doe.

The Karenni Emergency Rescue Committee (Lwel Doe KRC) reaffirmed that it stands in full solidarity with the people and continues its work as a grassroots civil society organization dedicated to the public's welfare.
