๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 1. Ensuring Children's Right to Education Amid Military Suppression Urged as Vital Step to Counter Junta's Destruction of the Education System

August 2
Radio NUG

The Ministry of Education of the National Unity Government (NUG) has stated that the terrorist military junta deliberately obstructs access to education for the public and seeks to oppress and control future generations. To resist this oppressive strategy, it is now crucial to grant children access to education and the right to live.

“Some people say children should only go back to school after the revolution. But you can't dig a well and immediately expect to drink clear water. While new technologies emerge, if the country collapses in the meantime, we’ll have to rebuild from scratch. It’s unrealistic to think that we can just wait for the revolution to end and then swiftly produce well-educated generations through technology alone,” the ministry stated.

The ministry further emphasized the importance of providing children with the right to education and creating a safe educational environment to counter the junta’s destruction of the education system. It warned that failure to provide education at this time could result in the emergence of a cruel and violent future generation.

“Let us protect and nurture children who are eager to learn as if they were our own. Let us guarantee their right to life, their right to education, and their right to dream of a better future,” the Ministry of Education of the NUG urged.

The ministry also called on the public to prioritize the protection of children’s education in the collective effort to rebuild the nation and to work together to ensure a better future for the next generation.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 2. Declaration of Military Rule Shows Clear Sign of Loss of Legitimacy, Says U Khaing Thukha

August 2
Radio NUG

U Khaing Thukha, spokesperson for the Arakan Army (AA), responded to the junta’s declaration of a state of emergency in 63 townships—including 14 townships in Rakhine State under AA control and Kanpetlet Township in Chin State—on July 31, stating:

“Declaring military rule in areas they no longer control is a blatant indication of the junta's loss of legitimacy,” as quoted by People's Spring.

“We are closely monitoring all threats the military council imposes on the public. If necessary, we will respond appropriately,” he added.

Regarding junta leader Min Aung Hlaing’s recent move to dissolve the current military council and rebrand it as the “State Stability and National Security Commission,” U Khaing Thukha commented:

“You cannot change the flavor just by pouring old wine into a new bottle. The junta’s brutal, corrupt policies will remain unchanged.”

The military council’s newly declared martial law now encompasses:

  • Kachin State: 5 townships
  • Kayah State: 3 townships
  • Kayin State: 2 townships
  • Chin State: 7 townships
  • Sagaing Region: 9 townships
  • Magway Region: 5 townships
  • Mandalay Region: 3 townships
  • Rakhine State: 14 townships
  • Shan State: 15 townships

On August 2, a fleet of nine military vessels belonging to the junta arrived in Bhamo, and junta troops forcibly detained local civilians, dragging them aboard the ships. They were then coerced—under threat—into wearing blue uniforms and forced to unload cargo from the vessels, according to local sources.

It was further reported that a large number of junta troops have been deployed across the town to reinforce security presence.

Colonel Naw Bu, spokesperson of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), stated that the vessels likely serve the purpose of transporting weapons, ammunition, and other military supplies rather than merely reinforcing troops.
