📌📌 1. Military Junta Expands Cooperation with a Nuclear-Armed State Under the Pretext of Peaceful Civilian Use, Says Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun

September 29

At the United Nations General Assembly’s High-Level Plenary Meeting commemorating the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons, held on September 26 at the UN Headquarters in New York, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun, addressed the session.

He stated:

“Not only has there been no progress on nuclear disarmament, but the illegal coup military continues to carry out relentless and intensified aerial bombardments and heavy artillery attacks against the people of Myanmar. At the same time, the unlawful military regime is pursuing ambitions to possess dangerous nuclear weapons, expanding cooperation with a nuclear-armed state under the name of ‘peaceful civilian use.’ To put it clearly, the very same military junta that has plunged Myanmar into complete devastation and ruin cannot be trusted to use nuclear technology for peaceful civilian purposes. A regime committing such grave war crimes against its own people cannot be expected to apply dual-use nuclear technology solely for peaceful civilian purposes.”

The Ambassador further reaffirmed Myanmar’s stance:

“The only effective way to ensure safety and security from the use of nuclear weapons is through the total elimination of all nuclear weapons.”
