๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 2. Ko Htein Lin, Son of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Says the Military Continues to Commit War Crimes Due to the International Community’s Inaction

October 12

Ko Htein Lin, also known as Kim Aris, the youngest son of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, stated that the Myanmar military continues to commit war crimes and atrocities because it knows the international community has not yet taken clear and decisive action against it.

In expressing his position regarding ASEAN’s ongoing engagement with Myanmar’s military regime, Kim Aris said that the military’s sense of impunity is being reinforced by the lack of accountability from the international community.

He pointed out that ASEAN Chair and Malaysian Prime Minister recently met with coup leader Min Aung Hlaing, even though, not long ago, an airstrike by the junta killed more than 40 civilians during a peaceful religious festival. Kim Aris emphasized that such meetings should not take place under these circumstances, as they only legitimize the junta.

He also expressed concern that the continued silence and lack of condemnation from world leaders emboldens the junta to commit further atrocities, saying that this silence strengthens the military’s hand in carrying out acts of cruelty.

Kim Aris highlighted that the junta has not only ignored ASEAN’s Five-Point Consensus but has completely disregarded and defied it, thereby undermining ASEAN’s unity and credibility.

He warned that ASEAN’s tolerance of such blatant noncompliance effectively helps the junta escape punishment and accountability for its crimes.

Kim Aris also voiced concern over his mother Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s deteriorating health during her continued detention under the military regime, describing her imprisonment as a violation of justice and humanity and a reflection of the junta’s utter disregard for human decency.

He stressed that the release of all political prisoners, including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, should be a top priority for ASEAN and the international community.

Kim Aris firmly declared that no election or political process led by the military junta can be accepted unless there is genuine accountability, moral integrity, and a complete cessation of violence.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 3. KIA Reports Intensified Fighting and Humanitarian Needs in Hpakant, Kachin State

October 12

The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) announced on the evening of October 11 that fierce fighting has been taking place in Hpakant Township, Kachin State, where the junta has launched airstrikes, forcing local civilians to flee for safety and creating urgent humanitarian needs.

According to the KIA Information Department, heavy clashes erupted after the junta’s forces launched large-scale offensives against KIA Brigade 9, Battalion 6 territory in October. Frontline sources confirmed that the situation has escalated sharply, with the junta also carrying out frequent air assaults.

Reports indicate that the junta conducted multiple airstrikes on October 9 and 10, while artillery fire was launched from Hpakant Base.

Since June, the junta has been intensifying troop deployments, random shelling, and aerial bombings, leading to over four months of continuous heavy fighting between junta forces and KIA joint forces. As a result, local civilians have been displaced to safer areas and are now in urgent need of food and basic supplies, according to the KIA Information Department.

In addition, it was reported that the junta also conducted airstrikes without any active clashes in Lanse area, Hsawlaw Township, under KIA control. The October 10 afternoon attack killed one civilian and injured three others.

Although no clashes had recently occurred in Lanse, sources said that the junta, facing mounting casualties in ongoing battles, has been routinely bombing civilian villages in retaliation.

Earlier in September, junta airstrikes in the Lanse area killed three civilians, including a child, and destroyed many homes, according to documented military reports.
