📌📌 1. Myanmar Spring University has conferred degrees on over 600 CDM students within three years
October 7
Myanmar Spring University (MSU) announced today, October 7, that it has successfully conferred degrees on more than 600 students who joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) within the past three years.
The announcement coincides with the university’s third founding anniversary. MSU was officially established on October 7, 2022, as a publicly owned, independently administered university under the declaration No. 7/2022 issued by the Ministry of Education of the National Unity Government (NUG).
According to the statement, during the revolution, the university worked tirelessly in collaboration with the NUG Ministry of Education, temporary university councils, and academic boards to ensure that CDM students—whose education had been disrupted—could continue their studies without interruption.
At the time of its founding, MSU had only 45 temporary university councils and 22 academic boards. Currently, it has expanded to 60 temporary councils and 28 academic boards.
The university offers diverse fields of study similar to multidisciplinary universities that emerged after 1962—covering sciences, economics, arts, agriculture, and cooperatives, as well as veterinary science and animal husbandry.
MSU is organized into 15 faculties and offers a total of 147 degree programs across 45 academic disciplines.
Before 2020, the university had conducted four rounds of enrollment for both regular and distance-learning students, as well as three rounds of university entrance admissions, with a total of more than 13,000 students enrolled.
The university currently operates with seven administrative departments, employing 532 faculty members and 201 administrative staff. It has also established a research center, is preparing to conduct academic research, and is in the process of setting up a university e-library.
In addition, MSU has established a Quality Assurance Center to uphold academic standards, ensure the quality of teaching, and provide certification of student competence through continuous evaluations.
The university is also pursuing international collaboration and academic partnerships. It is currently in discussion with the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in the Philippines for academic cooperation, and is coordinating with other international institutions and universities to strengthen partnerships and obtain technical and educational support, according to the statement from Myanmar Spring University.

📌📌 2. Political prisoner U Aung Ko Oo dies in Dawei Prison due to inadequate medical care, says PPNM
October 7
The Political Prisoners Network – Myanmar (PPNM) reported that political prisoner U Aung Ko Oo, who was unjustly detained in Dawei Prison, passed away due to inadequate access to medical care while in custody.
The announcement was made today, October 7, regarding his death inside Dawei Prison in Tanintharyi Region.
U Aung Ko Oo, aged 48, had been serving an eight-year sentence under Sections 505(a) and Explosives Act Section 5. He died on October 3 from heart disease, diabetes, and kidney complications.
He had been arrested on May 14, 2021, at his home in Shin Motthee Village by junta-controlled police forces for leading peaceful anti-coup protests during the early days of the 2021 military coup. Following his arrest, he was charged and later transferred to Dawei Prison to serve his sentence.
Although he had long suffered from chronic illnesses and received occasional treatment while imprisoned, the lack of adequate medical attention in the prison ultimately led to his death, according to the statement.
PPNM expressed deep sorrow and solidarity with the bereaved family, noting that U Aung Ko Oo died in prison as a result of his commitment to resisting the military dictatorship.
