📌📌 1.NUG sends message of condolences to people affected by earthquakes in Turkey and Syria


On February 8, the National Unity Government issued a condolence message to the people of Turkey and Syria affected by the earthquake. The full message of the National Unity Government is as follow:


“On February 6, 2023, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake centered 23 kilometers east of Nurdagi in Gaziantep Province, Turkey, at a depth of 24.1 kilometers, affected Turkey and northwestern Syria. It is known that nearly 8,000 people were killed, about 40,000 were injured, and thousands of homes were destroyed due to the earthquake. The National Unity Government of the Republic of Myanmar is deeply saddened with the bereaved families of all those killed in the earthquake and prays with all Myanmar citizens for the speedy recovery of the injured.

The National Unity Government of The Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the people of Myanmar are deeply saddened by the news of the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria. We extend our deepest condolences to those who have lost loved ones. We pray for a speedy recovery for the injured. We offer our heartfelt admiration for the rescue efforts of the first responders, officials, and community organizations and our solidarity with all the people of Turkey and Syria. We send this message to all the people of Turkey and Syria, praying them to overcome the stress of the current natural disaster and be free of natural and man-made disasters in the future.”

Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun said that the future of Burmese children is uncertain under the military dictatorship. U Kyaw Moe Tun, Permanent Representative of Myanmar, stated at the first regular meeting of the UNICEF Executive Board for 2023 at the United Nations headquarters in New York City on February 7.


“As the military has recently issued Martial Law in more than 37 townships, aid programs reaching those in need may be further restricted. Similarly, the need for humanitarian assistance for children will likely increase as the military commits more brutal acts of terrorism. I am appealing to the public to support the revolution in any possible way because the future of Myanmar children under the military dictatorship is uncertain and can only be protected once the military dictatorship ends,” the Ambassador said.Currently, more than 1.5 million people in Myanmar, including children, are fleeing their homes, according to UNICEF Myanmar.

Among the 2,778 women arrested, Yangon had the highest number of women with 758, followed by Mandalay with 393 and Sagaing with 337. Furthermore, the Burmese Women’s Union stated that over 200 women arrested were ordinary civilians. It is reported that the arrested women include 365 from the education department, 92 party politicians and activists, 51 from the health sector, and 10 from the artists, media, NGOs, the judiciary, and parliament.

It is reported that the mine explosion may have resulted in casualties, but the exact number is still under investigation.

A mine attack on the military council’s support convoy somewhere on the Kaingtawma road, Myaing township, injured at least 13 junta forces. Myaing PDF confirmed that they attacked together with the allies at 8:30 a.m. on February 8.

“Myaing People’s Defense Force Battalion 1 (Divisions 1 and 4), the Storm Force, and MUGDF Forces attacked the military council’s support convoy returning from Hpalankaing with six mines someplace along the Kaingtawma road,” Myaing PDF said. According to the report, at least 13 military council members were seriously injured during the mine attack.
