Radio NUG

As December 25th approaches, marking the globally cherished and joyous celebration of Christmas, Acting President Duwa Lashi La of the National Unity Government has extended his heartfelt wishes for the health, happiness, and peace of all citizens of Myanmar and people around the world. The occasion, commemorating the love and grace of Jesus Christ, resonates with the message of goodwill conveyed in the famous hymn “Joy to the World.”

“Christmas is a day to embody peace, warmth, joy, and compassion,” stated the Acting President. However, in Myanmar, as the nation continues its resistance to end military dictatorship, the holiday season arrives amid the ongoing revolutionary struggle. While many brave individuals spend this time shouldering the responsibilities of the revolution, countless civilians—including children and mothers—are forced to endure insecurity, fear, and displacement due to the relentless assaults of the military junta.

As 2024 comes to an end and we enter 2025, the fourth anniversary of our revolution draws near. Despite nearly four years of struggle, the unwavering perseverance of the people, steadfast support for the revolution, and the tireless efforts of resistance fighters and allied forces continue to inspire us. The year 2024 has witnessed significant defeats and collapses within the military junta’s structure. With unity and a shared determination, the revolution has inflicted historic losses on the junta, culminating in the fall of the Eastern and Western Regional Military Commands. Additional regional command centers are on the verge of collapse, and over 90 towns nationwide have already been liberated from the junta’s control.

The Acting President reaffirmed that all citizens of Myanmar deserve to experience the Christmas season with joy, peace, and safety—just as the rest of the world does. To achieve this, he urged unwavering dedication to the revolutionary goal. He extended his sincere Christmas wishes for peace, joy, and the ability for all to fully embrace the warmth of love and the essence of freedom during this sacred season.

Justice Minister U Thein Oo has emphasized the importance of individual accountability among judges to ensure the preservation of a positive image of the judiciary. His remarks came during a discussion with Union Ministry officials and ground-level judges on December 21.

“With 2025 set to be a politically significant year, every judge must take responsibility for ensuring the integrity of the judicial system. Furthermore, ministry staff should play a key role in transitional justice processes,” the Minister stated.

He added that while the National Unity Government is diplomatically countering the junta’s efforts to stage a sham election, the judiciary must also pursue innovative methods to enhance judicial practices. A balanced approach across the three pillars of the judiciary—judges, legal officers, and prison authorities—will be essential.

The meeting included Union Minister U Thein Oo, the Director General of the Union Minister’s Office, transitional justice officials, and judges from 29 ground-level courts. They discussed coordinated efforts to ensure fairness and integrity in the justice system during this transitional period.

Radio NUG

The Township Administration Council of Pale Township, along with humanitarian coordinators and area leaders, visited a borehole drilling site at a refugee camp on December 23, according to a report released by the Township Administration Council.

The refugee camp, located near Pyu Saw Htee village, was established due to repeated incidents of village raids, forced abductions, killings, and frequent looting of personal property. These circumstances forced the villagers to flee and live as refugees, where they now face severe scarcity of drinking water.

To address this need, a monk from the Sangha Metta Group facilitated a connection with donors in Taiwan, who contributed funds to the humanitarian coordinators of Pale Township Administration Council. The drilling was then carried out by a team of expert technicians using the donated resources.

The Pale Township Administration Council expressed its heartfelt gratitude to all the donors who contributed generously to help the internally displaced persons in the township. Their support has been publicly acknowledged with deep respect.

Radio NUG

Winter clothes were donated as Christmas gifts for over 300 refugee children through the collaboration of CRPH Support Group, Norway, and other donors, according to a statement by CRPH Support Group, Norway’s Secretary-General, Ma Wut Mhone Win, on December 24.

“In the refugee camps, both children and adults urgently need winter clothing. We've maintained a list of children staying in Mizoram camps since 2022, and we also sent gifts last December. Why? Because while children in other places get to celebrate Christmas joyfully, these children often miss out, receiving neither gifts nor happiness. To bring a smile to their faces and provide some warmth, we initiated this project,” she explained.

Among the donors was the NORAK organization, which contributed proceeds from Southeast Asia fundraising events to support the initiative.

The CRPH Support Group, Norway, continues to provide consistent support to refugees and has also been raising funds through charity bazaars to support the Spring Revolution.
