๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 1. CDF Mintat Highlights the Contrast Between Protests Against Military Dictatorship in 2021 and the Capture of Mintat City Along with Prisoners of War

December 26:
Following the capture of Mintat City by the Chin Defense Force (CDF) Mintat in alliance with Chin resistance forces, the group released a series of photos comparing the current state of detained prisoners of war with images of protests against military dictatorship in 2021.

Mintat City was fully seized by the coalition forces on December 21, 2024, marking a significant victory since the beginning of armed resistance against the military junta in 2021. During the city’s capture, numerous soldiers from the military junta were taken as prisoners.

Photographs shared by CDF Mintat show two contrasting moments: one from 2021, where locals were peacefully marching in protest along the main Mintat-Matupi road near the city’s central bank, and the other showing junta soldiers now detained in the same location. Additional comparisons were drawn between scenes near the central market, where civilians had once staged sit-in protests, and the present situation, where junta soldiers captured near the same area are being documented.

Historical records reveal that while Mintat residents initially advocated for peaceful protests against military rule, brutal crackdowns by the junta forced the community to be among the first to initiate armed resistance. In April 2021, Mintat locals launched a daring attack against a military convoy equipped with heavy and modern weaponry using handmade firearms. After nearly four years of struggle, their efforts culminated in the complete liberation of Mintat City in December 2024.
