December 31
In central Myanmar’s Magway Region, a vehicle carrying four members of the military council was ambushed in Pakokku town on the afternoon of December 30. The People’s Defense Force (PDF) of Pakokku Township, known as Young Force UG, reported that all passengers aboard the vehicle were killed, and four firearms were seized.
The attack occurred around 4:30 PM near the entrance to Industrial Zone 1 as the military council’s vehicle was returning to town from the industrial zone gate. According to a Young Force UG spokesperson, the attackers used close-range shooting to disable the vehicle.
The identities, ranks, and unit numbers of the deceased military council members have not yet been confirmed. However, video footage of the attack shows at least three men armed with short-barrel firearms ambushing a white Hijet vehicle. The vehicle veered off the road and stopped, with the PDF subsequently seizing three MA-series rifles and other weapons.
Photos released by Young Force UG reveal that four rifles and a cache of ammunition were recovered. A pro-military Telegram channel acknowledged the incident, confirming the deaths of four security personnel and noting that it raises serious questions about the security situation in Pakokku.
Pakokku Township, located on the western bank of the Ayeyarwady River, has reportedly seen a decline in military control, with resistance forces gaining strength, according to the Special Advisory Council for Myanmar (SAC-M).
