Radio NUG reported that military junta-linked Facebook channels are intimidating residents of Fai Khun to return to their homes, despite the town being heavily damaged.
On December 5, a local resident returning to retrieve belongings from his house in Pucha village was killed instantly by a landmine near his staircase. The Fai Khun Platform highlighted this incident, condemning the junta’s coercion tactics.
One resident stated, “They’re threatening us to return, but seeing the devastated homes in Fai Khun, who could endure living there? The town is not only destroyed but being forced back with the junta is terrifying.”
The junta had previously conducted numerous attacks in November on villages in Fai Khun Township, using artillery and airstrikes without direct combat, resulting in significant civilian casualties, including women and children.

According to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), 12 civilians, including 5 women and 7 men, were confirmed killed by military junta forces between December 1 and 6, 2024.
The victims included three children under 18. Mandalay Region recorded the highest number of deaths (5), followed by Sagaing Region (3). Of the 12 deaths, 11 were caused by junta airstrikes, while the remaining victim was killed by artillery shelling.
