๐๐ 2. IIMM Collecting Evidence of International Crimes for Myanmar
January 17
The Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM) announced on January 16 that it continues to collect evidence related to international crimes in Myanmar and encourages individuals to submit relevant information.
"Why is gathering evidence on serious international crimes critical at this time? The mechanism ensures that evidence is collected, analyzed, and preserved before it is lost or destroyed. Additionally, the mechanism conducts interviews with witnesses and survivors while their memories remain fresh. Currently, the IIMM has gathered over 450 testimonies from victims and eyewitnesses, alongside data from more than 1,000 sources. ๐๐ 3. Over 120 Youths Arrested in Mandalay Under Military Conscription Laws
January 17
Over 120 youths were reportedly arrested in Mandalay city’s seven townships within a 15-day period under the pretext of military conscription laws, according to the Mandalay Strike Force, which released a statement on January 17.
The report highlighted the unjust arrests of youths in Mandalay following the enactment of the controversial Cybersecurity Law by the military junta on January 1, which does not align with democratic standards. The junta and its affiliates have reportedly been stopping young people in public, inspecting their phones, and forcing them into military conscription.
The Mandalay Strike Force released a list of those detained, showing:
- 19 individuals from Aungmyaythazan Township,
- 15 from Chanayethazan Township,
- 17 from Maha Aungmye Township,
- 19 from Chanmyathazi Township,
- 19 from Pyigyidagun Township,
- 18 from Amarapura Township, and
- 15 from Patheingyi Township,
with a total of 122 youths arrested.
The group noted that the numbers may be higher than reported due to incomplete data from the ground. The arrests occur both day and night, with the junta using the conscription law and the Cybersecurity Law as excuses to detain and extort citizens.
The Mandalay Strike Force urged youths to take precautions when leaving their homes, avoid unnecessary outings, and stay vigilant of military activities in their surroundings. It also advised preparing for potential threats and reporting unlawful detentions to resistance organizations.

On February 1, Myanmar communities in Norway will stage a protest marking the anniversary of the military coup, according to Daw Wut Hmone Win, the General Secretary of the Myanmar (CRPH) Support Group, Norway.
"The protest will take place on February 1, a Saturday, either in front of the parliament building or the SAC’s office in Oslo. The efforts of Myanmar communities in Norway have been acknowledged by Norwegian parliamentarians and the Norwegian government. Daw Wut Hmone Win shared her personal experiences, stating:
"I have been actively involved in resisting the military coup since day one. It has not been easy to work from Norway to support Myanmar, advocate for attention on political matters, and engage with the international community. However, by early 2025, our activities have garnered recognition and engagement from the Norwegian government, universities, and NGOs."
