๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 1. Intense Airstrikes by the Military Council Amid Heavy Casualties in the Banmaw Battle
January 25

The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) escalated their offensive to seize Banmaw in Kachin State on January 24. In response, the Military Council launched intense counterattacks, deploying air support throughout the day, according to military sources.

On January 24, the KIA and allied forces engaged in a fierce battle, reportedly seizing four armored vehicles and taking control of Battalion 7006, an armored unit under the Military Council. The conflict was described as extremely intense.

The Military Council retaliated with continuous airstrikes on Banmaw throughout the day, utilizing fighter jets and Y-12 aircraft from air bases in Tada-U, Myitkyina, and Meiktila. According to airstrike records, the attacks began at around 6:30 AM with Y-12 aircraft and continued with fighter jet support nearly all day.

Local sources report that the Military Council is no longer able to reinforce their troops in Banmaw with helicopters. While suffering heavy casualties in Banmaw, the Military Council carried out two kamikaze drone airstrikes on KIA headquarters in Laiza on the afternoon of January 24, but no casualties were reported.

Due to continuous air and drone attacks by the Military Council, local Kachin-language social media channels have issued warnings urging caution against air threats.

With only two major bases—SAC Battalion 21 and Infantry Battalion 47—remaining to be captured for full control of Banmaw, KIA-led allied forces continue their offensive operations. Meanwhile, the Military Council is using all available means, including air and drone strikes, to defend Banmaw.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 4. Police Chief's Visit to Pathein District to Discourage Weapon Surrender

January 25

In Ayeyarwady Region’s Pathein District, the junta-appointed Deputy Police Chief, Brigadier General Win Zaw Moe, visited to mobilize police officers to avoid easily surrendering their weapons during battles, according to local sources.

On January 23, the Deputy Police Chief arrived at the junta-controlled Regional Police Force Headquarters in Pathein. His visit included meetings with police units in the district to deliver motivational speeches, urging officers not to surrender or raise white flags during conflicts. However, reports indicate that officers were not allowed to voice their challenges or the current state of police stations.

By January 25, in the morning, Brigadier General Win Zaw Moe had moved on to Thabaung and Chaungtha Townships for similar mobilization efforts, as confirmed by the Special Intelligence Team of Pathein.

Previously, in late December last year, the same police chief visited Myitkyina, the headquarters of the Northern Military Command, where he conducted inspections of police stations and similarly warned officers against surrendering weapons during clashes. His visit coincided with the Kachin Independence Army (KIA)’s campaign to seize Bhamo.

Likewise, his current visit to Pathein comes amidst active offensives by the Arakan Army (AA) and People's Defense Forces (PDFs) targeting military bases along the border of Rakhine and Ayeyarwady Regions.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 5. Military Forces Impersonate PDFs in Bagan-Nyaung-U Area, Reports Say

January 25

In the Bagan-Nyaung-U area of Mandalay Region, the military has reportedly been conducting operations disguised as People's Defense Forces (PDFs), according to a spokesperson from the Nyaung-U People's Defense Force (PDF).

Recently, reports have emerged of frequent robberies, thefts, and extortion threats in areas between New Bagan and Sintku Township, on the western side of Nyaung-U Township. Residents are being warned to remain vigilant and report any information to the Bagan Pyit Bilu Task Force, the local PDF unit.

The Nyaung-U PDF has announced plans to quickly address these crimes and urged collaboration between local resistance groups and other revolutionary organizations to counter the disguised military operations.

This warning aims to prevent misunderstandings among revolutionary forces, as the military’s impersonation of PDFs in the Nyaung-U District has created confusion, the PDF explained.
