The Association for the Assistance of Political Prisoners (AAPP) has called for the international community to exert pressure to ensure the immediate release of all political prisoners, including President U Win Myint and State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.
In January, the AAPP urged the global community to refrain from legitimizing the military junta in any form and to take effective action to press for the release of political prisoners. They also highlighted the need for international efforts to hold the military junta accountable for crimes against humanity and to provide support in pursuing justice.
The organization reported that the military regime continues to detain political prisoners in police stations, military interrogation centers, and prisons, where they are subjected to psychological, physical, and sexual torture through various methods.
Since the coup, a total of 28,051 individuals have been arrested, of whom 21,479 remain in detention. Among these detainees, 9,933 individuals have already been sentenced to prison terms.

๐๐ 2. Myanmar People Must Not Be Forgotten, Says United Nations
January 2
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) emphasized on January 2 that the people of Myanmar must not be forgotten. This statement was made in relation to the severe underfunding of humanitarian aid in 2024.
"Due to extremely low funding in 2024, millions in Myanmar were left without assistance. The resilience of those suffering from crises is hanging by a thread. The people of Myanmar must not be forgotten; they urgently need uninterrupted aid," the UN OCHA stated.
In 2024, out of the 5.3 million people targeted for assistance, 1.4 million received no aid at all, and even those who received aid did not get sufficient support.
The report also warned that without adequate funding for 2025, countless lives will be left without critical assistance. This was highlighted in the "2025 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan."
