๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 1. “Whether the international community supports us or not, we will completely eradicate military dictatorship,” says Deputy Minister U Aung Kyaw Moe

January 8

During a press conference held on January 3 by the Ministry of Human Rights under the National Unity Government (NUG), Deputy Minister of Human Rights U Aung Kyaw Moe stated the following regarding international efforts, challenges, and initiatives related to human rights and justice:

“Whether the international community supports us or not, we are determined to uproot this military dictatorship and establish the federal democracy that everyone desires. If we were waiting solely for international support, the revolution would not have progressed to this stage today,” said Deputy Minister U Aung Kyaw Moe.

He added:
“If the international community had only supported us, this revolution would not have taken as long as it has. Beyond political will, even the moral obligations that the world owes us have not been fulfilled adequately. We are compelled to repeatedly voice this to ensure the world hears us.”

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 2. The military junta continues to target and kill civilians to sustain its power, says U Nay Phone Latt

January 8

During a press briefing on January 8 directed at the public and the international community, U Nay Phone Latt, spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, stated that the military junta continues to target and kill civilians to maintain its hold on power.

“The terrorist junta led by Min Aung Hlaing and his accomplices carried out bombings and airstrikes targeting villages, displacement camps, hospitals, clinics, monasteries holding prayer ceremonies, and civilians’ homes during the New Year period, specifically on December 31 and January 1. These attacks occurred in regions such as Bago, Mandalay, Rakhine, Shan, Karenni, Kachin, and other states and regions,” said U Nay Phone Latt.

“These acts highlight the junta’s lack of ethics and humanity. At the same time, their superficial rhetoric about peace is nothing more than a faรงade to gain international recognition while continuing to target and kill civilians to sustain their regime,” he added.

The bombings and airstrikes carried out by the junta during the New Year period resulted in the deaths of 20 civilians.

U Nay Phone Latt further urged the international community not to support the upcoming sham elections orchestrated by the junta, which lacks legitimacy and may result in charges at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
