πŸ“ŒπŸ“Œ 3. UN Urged to Investigate Myanmar-related Ties of Special Envoy Through ETM and Chinese Companies

March 9
Radio NUG

Justice For Myanmar has reported that Julie Bishop, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Myanmar, has been appointed as a strategic advisor to Energy Transition Minerals (ETM), a company linked to Chinese state-owned enterprises involved in uranium and rare earth mining projects in Greenland. These projects are highly controversial and have connections to Myanmar.

Given that her role as Special Envoy involves addressing Myanmar’s crisis, her credibility and impartiality when engaging with pro-democracy forces, civil society organizations, and affected local communities are critically important.

However, concerns have arisen regarding her involvement in the mining sector and her connections with Chinese companies, raising serious questions about her ethical integrity and ability to fulfill her mandate effectively. Consequently, UN Secretary-General AntΓ³nio Guterres has been urged to conduct an investigation into potential conflicts of interest stemming from Julie Bishop’s business ties.

The Saturday Paper was the first news outlet to report on Julie Bishop’s connections to Chinese state-owned companies through ETM, which is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX).
