๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 4. Defend Myanmar Democracy Condemns Belarusian Dictator’s Support for Myanmar’s Military Junta and Stands in Solidarity with the Belarusian People Fighting for Democracy

March 14
Radio NUG

Defend Myanmar Democracy issued a statement condemning the Belarusian dictatorship under Alexander Lukashenko for its support of Myanmar’s military junta. The statement called on the international community to assist the people of Belarus in their democratic struggle and to reject all sham elections orchestrated by authoritarian regimes.

Lukashenko had invited election observers from Myanmar’s military junta, led by Min Aung Hlaing, to monitor Belarus’ recent illegitimate elections, which he accepted.

The statement further highlighted that Lukashenko has never been a supporter of democracy. Since first assuming power in 1994, international election monitoring bodies have consistently found that elections in Belarus have neither been free nor fair.

In 2020, opposition parties claimed to have won 60% of the votes in Belarus’ general elections. However, following widespread election fraud allegations, opposition leaders faced arrests or were forced into exile, triggering nationwide protests and international condemnation.

In 2025, Lukashenko declared an 87% election victory, sparking mass protests and sanctions from Western nations.

Defend Myanmar Democracy spokesperson Naw Aung stated,

"The military junta’s so-called elections are merely an attempt to legitimize their illegal power grab. We urge the international community to see through this deception."

The statement also condemned Lukashenko’s decision to send election observers to Myanmar, calling it a tactical collaboration between authoritarian regimes to validate each other’s unlawful rule.
