๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 1. NUG Convenes Emergency Meeting Immediately After Earthquake, Activates Emergency Response Committee

The National Unity Government (NUG) has announced that it immediately convened an emergency meeting following the earthquake and activated the operations of the Emergency Coordination and Disaster Management Committee.

An official emergency statement regarding the powerful earthquake was released by the NUG on March 28.

At approximately 12:50 PM Myanmar Standard Time on March 28, 2025, a major earthquake measuring 7.7 magnitude struck 16 kilometers northwest of Sagaing, Myanmar. The earthquake was classified as a "Major Earthquake" in terms of seismic intensity and had a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, making it a strike-slip type earthquake. Its tremors were felt in Bangladesh, India, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, and China.

The earthquake caused severe destruction in Sagaing Region, Mandalay Region, and nearby cities, leading to the collapse of religious and heritage buildings, structural damage, landslides, and the destruction of roads and bridges.

In response, the NUG promptly convened an emergency meeting and activated the Emergency Coordination and Disaster Management Committee. Government ministries have been instructed to take immediate and necessary actions within their respective jurisdictions.

At present, efforts are underway to compile casualty figures, injury reports, and damage assessments. Additionally, rescue and relief operations, as well as reconstruction efforts, are being conducted in the affected areas under NUG’s administration.

Furthermore, reports indicate that Myanmar migrant workers and other laborers were among those killed or injured when partially constructed buildings collapsed in Thailand due to the earthquake. The NUG expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives.

Union Minister Dr. Win Myat Aye has expressed deep sorrow over the devastating earthquake, stating that the NUG has already initiated humanitarian aid and protection measures for affected communities.

Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, the Union Minister acknowledged the widespread destruction caused by the earthquake:

"Initial reports indicate that Mandalay, Sagaing, Naypyidaw, Bago, and Shan State have suffered significant structural damage. Tragically, there have also been casualties and losses among the people. Our citizens are already enduring man-made atrocities, and now, they are facing a devastating natural disaster. This makes us deeply saddened, and we share in their pain."

He emphasized that the NUG prioritizes on-the-ground efforts and has already mobilized existing emergency response teams and disaster networks to address the crisis.

"Our Emergency Response Teams and Coordination Committees were activated within four hours of the earthquake. Moving forward, we are fully committed to coordinating and ensuring support for the people."

Additionally, the minister confirmed that damage assessments are ongoing, and public awareness campaigns on aftershocks and earthquake preparedness are being conducted.

Reports indicate that fourteen people lost their lives when the Kandaw Mosque in Taungoo collapsed due to the earthquake.

According to local news sources, the casualties occurred when the earthquake struck while worshippers were gathered at the mosque for prayers on the afternoon of Friday, March 28.

At approximately 12:50 PM Myanmar Standard Time on March 28, 2025, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7, centered in Sagaing, Myanmar, resulted in multiple casualties across the country.

Currently, emergency response efforts are underway, with urgent rescue and humanitarian assistance required due to the widespread destruction of homes and buildings.

According to the announcement made on March 28, the fundraising program aims to provide emergency support to the most affected areas. The NUG Representative Office in the Czech Republic has prepared this initiative to extend assistance based on available resources.

Myanmar nationals living abroad and supporters of the revolution are urged to contribute. The NUG Representative Office has shared a donation link, allowing individuals to participate in this humanitarian effort with compassion and solidarity.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 5. Singapore’s Civil Defense Force Coordinates with ASEAN Humanitarian Center for Disaster Management to Support Relief Efforts in Myanmar

The Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) is currently coordinating with the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre) to support rescue and disaster relief operations in Myanmar.

According to an official statement, the SCDF is assisting in urban search and rescue operations, as well as broader disaster response efforts in Myanmar.

Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Vivian Balakrishnan, announced on March 28 that the Singaporean government extends its deepest condolences over the loss of lives and destruction caused by the earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand. He expressed sympathy for those affected.

Furthermore, the Singaporean government stands ready to expand its assistance. The SCDF is actively working with the AHA Centre to facilitate disaster response operations, including urban search and rescue missions in Myanmar.
