During a preliminary informal discussion on February 28 regarding the draft modality for a high-level international conference on Rohingya Muslims and other minorities in Myanmar, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun, emphasized that a sustainable resolution to Myanmar’s entire crisis—including the Rohingya issue—requires effective international cooperation and support that aligns with the will and interests of the Myanmar people.
He stated that ensuring the Rohingya community’s safe, voluntary, and dignified repatriation, along with a long-term resolution to their situation, is of paramount importance for everyone involved.
U Kyaw Moe Tun highlighted that addressing the root causes of the crisis and achieving a political solution are crucial for lasting peace. He asserted that the military and the dictatorship system are at the core of the problem.
He also pointed out that, over four years since the coup, airstrikes and indiscriminate bombings by the military have continued, subjecting civilians across the country—including in Rakhine State—to constant fear and insecurity.
He concluded by stating that Myanmar’s people desire peace and stability above all else and that international support, particularly from neighboring and regional countries, is essential in achieving that goal.

On February 25, during the Public Forum & Solidarity Ceremony – Free Myanmar Now: Diaspora Resistance and the Fight for Democracy, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the Deputy Minister of Labor from the National Unity Government (NUG) urged ASEAN nations and all ILO member states to take coordinated action against Myanmar’s military regime under ILO Article 33. This call was made in response to the military’s blatant disregard for the recommendations of the ILO Commission of Inquiry (COI) and its continued acts of violence, including forcing civilians into war and brutally suppressing labor unions.
During the event, the Deputy Minister emphasized, “If we truly wish for Myanmar to be peaceful and stable, for democracy to flourish, and for fundamental rights—including human rights, labor rights, and the rights of women and children—to be upheld, then we must support the Spring Revolution. It is imperative to take all possible measures to block and sanction the terrorist military junta.”
Addressing the people of ASEAN, the Deputy Minister highlighted that their respective nations have also faced oppression in their histories. He called on ASEAN citizens to reflect on their own past struggles and stand in solidarity with the people of Myanmar, who are currently suffering under the junta’s tyranny, facing displacement, and enduring hardships inside the country. He urged ASEAN communities, ASEAN leaders, and relevant organizations to take firm action, including:
- Supporting the Spring Revolution
- Refusing to cooperate with the military junta
- Imposing further measures to hold the junta accountable
The Deputy Minister expressed confidence that, once the Spring Revolution achieves victory, Myanmar and ASEAN will be able to build a stronger and more united regional community. His message was delivered via a video statement during the event.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from Myanmar communities in Malaysia, labor unions, civil society organizations (CSOs), Malaysian citizens, and diplomats from ten countries, including the EU, Norway, Germany, Zimbabwe, Russia, and Iran.
