πŸ“ŒπŸ“Œ 1. KNDF Pledges to Become a Gender-Equal Force Free from Discrimination

March 8

The Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) has announced its commitment to becoming a state military force that prioritizes gender equality, eliminates all forms of oppression, and ensures a discrimination-free environment.

On this International Women’s Day, March 8, KNDF delivered a message honoring the female comrades serving within its ranks. The KNDF Gender Equality Department also expressed gratitude and recognition for the dedication of female comrades actively participating in revolutionary duties across various sectors of the organization.

KNDF emphasized that, throughout the Karenni resistance movement, not only have female comrades played a vital role, but also the support of mothers and wives of revolutionaries has been an indispensable source of strength.

The KNDF Gender Equality Department stated that, historically, women have led and participated in revolutionary struggles in various ways, continually resisting oppressive regimes across generations—a fight that persists to this day.

Women within KNDF actively engage not only in combat and military operations but also in advocating for equality within the military structure. They contribute to humanitarian aid, healthcare, education, and family welfare, demonstrating their commitment to a more inclusive and just system.

This effort is recognized as a significant revolutionary milestone in advancing women's dignity.

As KNDF upholds the principles of national equality and federal democracy in its foundational vision, it affirms that true equality cannot be achieved without gender inclusivity. Therefore, the organization is striving to transform itself into a state military force that prioritizes gender equality while eradicating all forms of oppression and discrimination, according to the KNDF Gender Equality Department.

πŸ“ŒπŸ“Œ 2. Canada Imposes New Sanctions on Myanmar Military Regime

March 8

Canada has imposed new sanctions on Myanmar’s military regime, Foreign Minister MΓ©lanie Joly announced today, March 8.

The sanctions target 13 senior military officials and three organizations affiliated with the junta, holding them accountable for actions that undermine national peace, security, and stability while committing severe human rights violations, according to Minister Joly.

The measures are a response to the persistent repression, terrorism, and instability inflicted on the people of Myanmar by the military and defense institutions, including their grave human rights abuses.

The ongoing conflict has exacerbated humanitarian crises, increasing instability and violence against civilians, the statement noted.

“Canada will not stand idly by while senior officials of the Myanmar government continue to violate human rights and destabilize peace and security in the country. We remain committed to supporting the aspirations of the Myanmar people for a peaceful, inclusive democratic future,” said Foreign Minister MΓ©lanie Joly.

A United Nations report released on December 2, 2024, revealed that over 6,000 civilians had been killed due to military-led massacres. Additionally, in the first four months of 2024 alone, airstrikes by the military resulted in the deaths of 359 civilians—including 61 children—and left 756 others injured.

Given the severity of the situation, Canada has urged the international community to take action against Myanmar’s military regime.

Canada has also called on global allies to halt all military and financial support to the junta, suspend the transfer of arms, military equipment, and technical assistance, and sever all means of aid that could strengthen the military’s operations.

Canada reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with international partners to support long-term peace and stability in Myanmar. The government also stressed its determination to ensure accountability for human rights violations and restore democratic governance in the country.

As of now, Canada has sanctioned 149 individuals and 92 organizations linked to the Myanmar military junta.

πŸ“ŒπŸ“Œ 3. Myanmar Junta Uses Heavy Machinery to Destroy Homes in Kyarnikan Village Along Mandalay-Matta Road

March 8

The Myanmar military junta has forcibly demolished homes in Kyarnikan Village, located along the Mandalay-Matta Road in Patheingyi Township, using heavy machinery such as excavators and bulldozers, claiming the land as state-owned, according to MDY Revolution.

The junta declared the eastern side of Kyarnikan Village as road-owned and canal-owned land and demolished structures within a 100-foot area, while on the western side, it claimed a 75-foot-wide strip as road land and carried out demolitions accordingly.

A force of over 50 personnel, including junta troops, police, municipal officers, and so-called "People’s Security" forces (known as "blue uniforms"), conducted the destruction between March 4 and March 6.

The junta carried out the demolitions without prior notice, denying residents the opportunity to retrieve their belongings. As a result, locals suffered significant losses.

Due to these actions, at least 80 households along the Mandalay-Matta Highway have been affected, according to local reports.

In response to the junta’s destructive operations, MDY Revolution has called on the public to unite and actively participate in the revolutionary struggle to dismantle the military dictatorship.
