๐๐ 2. UN Representative Says Lack of Disaster Preparedness by Military Cost Lives in Myanmar Earthquake
April 10
During the 58th Session of the Commission on Population and Development, held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from April 7 to 11, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the UN, U Kyaw Moe Tun, delivered a statement on April 8.
He emphasized that sound governance is a fundamental prerequisite for ensuring healthy lives and a dignified society for people of all ages.
He noted that the military’s coup has severely affected the country’s future and development trajectory, reversing all the democratic and developmental progress achieved under the former civilian government, which was elected through a democratic process.
Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun pointed out that the military has entirely neglected both the rule of law and critical disaster preparedness procedures. As a result, the people of Myanmar were left vulnerable to the devastating earthquake that recently struck the country.
He stated that the military’s failure to implement any disaster preparedness plans led to preventable civilian deaths. Furthermore, he noted that various restrictions imposed by the military regime have obstructed the timely and effective delivery of humanitarian assistance to earthquake-affected regions.
He added that this deliberate obstruction of aid delivery to conflict-affected and earthquake-hit populations can be seen as an intentional act by the military to deprive victims of emergency humanitarian assistance.
Moreover, Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun condemned the military for continuing indiscriminate airstrikes against civilian populations, including those residing in earthquake-affected areas.
He said the National Unity Government (NUG) is persistently working to implement recovery and rehabilitation efforts for the victims of the disaster.
In conclusion, he emphasized that resolving the crisis in Myanmar requires the complete cessation of the military dictatorship and the military’s illegitimate seizure of power. He urged the international community to listen to and stand with the people of Myanmar, support their efforts to uproot the military dictatorship, and assist in the establishment of a Federal Democratic Union.
Specifically, he called on the international community to take concrete and effective actions to support these efforts.

๐๐ 3. Deputy Minister Ei Thinzar Maung Appeals for Justice Amid Myanmar Military Oppression
April 10
Deputy Minister Daw Ei Thinzar Maung called for international support for the people of Myanmar, who continue to suffer under military rule, in a video message released on April 10.
“In the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis, the 2008 Constitution was forcibly enacted. Now, as people suffer from the effects of a powerful earthquake, the military council insists on celebrating Thingyan (Myanmar New Year Festival) and portraying a false sense of stability in the country, diverting public attention and pushing ahead with plans to hold an election at all costs.
The SAC (State Administration Council) is likely working in advance with pro-military artists to ensure the festival takes place. But no matter how much the military attempts to disguise the truth, the reality cannot be erased.
The people of Myanmar have long suffered under military oppression. Do not turn a blind eye. Please stand with Myanmar for truth and justice,” she said.
Deputy Minister Ei Thinzar Maung further warned that the terrorist military is currently attempting to erase international recognition of its crimes and present itself as a legitimate government on the world stage.

๐๐ 5. Ko Htein Lin Announces That the USD 80,000 Fundraising Target in San Francisco Could Not Be Reached
April 10
Ko Htein Lin, the youngest son of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, announced that the targeted fundraising amount of USD 80,000 could not be achieved during a recent fundraising event held in San Francisco, USA.
"On April 6, we had the opportunity to meet with Myanmar-born families in San Francisco who share the same aspirations for justice, intense determination, remembrance, and unwavering solidarity with the people of Myanmar. At today’s fundraising event, we held an auction, but we were unable to raise the full target amount of USD 80,000. The funds we did raise will be used effectively for humanitarian relief — to assist recent earthquake survivors and support the recovery of those who have been oppressed by the military regime," said Ko Htein Lin.
Currently, Ko Htein Lin’s organization, Aid to Burma, is providing life-saving assistance to people in urgent need across Myanmar. This includes emergency food supplies, shelter, and medical aid.
This report was contributed by Radio NUG correspondents Min Thihan and Ko Khant.
