๐ฉ๐ฉ (6) Yangon public protests military airstrikes on earthquake-affected areas
April 10
Protesters across various parts of Yangon, including the city center, have voiced their opposition to the military junta’s aerial attacks on earthquake-affected areas by displaying protest banners and slogans, according to the Yangon People’s Protest Network.
Banners bearing messages such as “MILITARY AIRSTRIKE IS THE REAL FUCKING DISASTER” and “MILITARY AIRSTRIKE IS REAL FAULT” were reportedly displayed in high-traffic areas like Hledan Road and the city’s downtown core.
The protest movement condemned the military regime for failing to provide any emergency relief to civilians who lost their homes and livelihoods due to the recent natural disaster. Instead of offering aid, the junta has continued to launch airstrikes, endangering already vulnerable lives and escalating the humanitarian crisis.
The Yangon protest organizers called for the public to rise up and resist the brutal junta, which, they noted, has done nothing to implement disaster preparedness or protective measures for the population. Rather, the regime has chosen to bomb civilians and obstruct the efforts of civil society and rescue groups attempting to provide assistance. As a result of this inaction and obstruction, more lives have been lost unnecessarily, the statement emphasized.
These reports were submitted by Ko Khant and Min Thihan for Radio NUG.
