๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 1. NUG Expresses Deep Concern Over the Condition of State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, President U Win Myint, and All Political Prisoners

April 1

The National Unity Government (NUG) has expressed deep concern over the condition of State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, President U Win Myint, and all political prisoners, according to NUG spokesperson U Naing Hpone Latt. He made this statement on April 1 during a press briefing addressing the public and the international community.

"There have been reports of structural damage to certain buildings inside Mandalay's Obo Prison due to the earthquake. At this critical moment, we are deeply concerned about the well-being of State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, President U Win Myint, and all political prisoners who have been unjustly detained. While we have received reports that the State Counsellor is in stable condition, we cannot be entirely certain. Therefore, it is crucial to obtain more definitive and reliable information," he stated.

According to the NUG Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, the confirmed death toll from the earthquake in Sagaing has now reached 2,395, while the total number of people directly affected by the disaster stands at approximately 8,562,555. The ministry also announced that affected townships can now be viewed on a disaster response map.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 2. NUG Urges International Relief Organizations to Deliver Aid to All Earthquake-Affected Areas, Not Just Junta-Controlled Zones

April 1

The National Unity Government (NUG) has urged international humanitarian organizations to ensure that relief efforts extend beyond junta-designated locations to all earthquake-affected areas in urgent need of emergency assistance.

During a press briefing, NUG spokesperson U Naing Hpone Latt stated:
"The terrorist military junta is deliberately blocking relief teams from reaching earthquake-affected areas in Sagaing and other regions with strong revolutionary resistance. As a result, we urge humanitarian organizations to extend their assistance beyond the areas designated by the military council and reach earthquake-stricken areas in Sagaing, Mandalay, Bago, and Southern Shan State, where emergency aid is critically needed. The NUG stands ready to collaborate on these efforts."

Additionally, he acknowledged that international organizations working with the military council to provide aid to disaster victims have been doing so out of necessity and reassured that the NUG understands their position.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 3. Chronic Illness Patients Suffering Severe Consequences from Both the Earthquake and the Junta’s Failures

April 1

Beyond the direct devastation of the earthquake, chronically ill patients are suffering severe consequences due to the failures of the military junta, with many losing their lives unnecessarily, according to reports from families in Yangon.

Increased power outages, severe shortages of clean water, lack of fresh air, mismanagement of hospitals, scarcity of essential medicines, and worsening economic conditions have exacerbated the struggles of patients with chronic diseases.

"Oxygen supplies, medicine, clean water, and electricity have become scarce, leading to unnecessary deaths among chronically ill patients," said a family member of one patient.

According to reports, the most affected victims are those suffering from kidney disease, heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, and cancer. The failure of the junta to manage post-earthquake recovery efforts has worsened their plight, with avoidable deaths rising significantly.

A healthcare worker noted that, in addition to the physical devastation caused by the earthquake, patients are also experiencing increased psychological distress, further deteriorating their health.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that cancer alone causes 10 million deaths annually, making it one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide.

"In hospitals, patients often have to wait in long queues for scans, sometimes for years. Those who can afford alternative treatment options seek them out, while those who cannot are left with no options and die prematurely," said a resident of Yangon.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 4. Earthquake-Affected CDM Healthcare Workers Can Seek Assistance from CDM Medical Network

April 1

Healthcare workers participating in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) who have been affected by the earthquake can seek assistance from the CDM Medical Network (CDMMN).

As of April 1 at 12:30 PM, the critical 72-hour "Golden Hour" for earthquake rescue efforts has passed. Despite the scale of this disaster, ordinary citizens remain the primary responders, with minimal support from the junta. The CDMMN, in partnership with The Promise Campaign, is currently working to provide assistance to CDM healthcare workers affected by the earthquake.

Those affected can register for support through the CDMMN Facebook Messenger page by selecting the option "Register as an Earthquake-Affected CDM Healthcare Worker" via m.me/cdmmn.

April 1

The French Embassy in Myanmar has changed its graphic design to black and white as a gesture of solidarity with the people of Myanmar affected by the devastating earthquake, according to an official announcement made by the French Embassy in Yangon on April 1.
