๐๐ 1. Acting President Urges International Community to Seriously Reassess the Military Council’s Peace Talks Amid Efforts to Promote Domestic Dialogue
April 23
Acting President Duwa Lashi La has urged the international community—while encouraging domestic peace talks—to critically and seriously reassess the military council’s approach to such negotiations.
He made this statement during the 12/2025 Cabinet Meeting of the National Unity Government (NUG) held on April 22.
“Our government was the first to declare a ceasefire, except in cases of self-defense, shortly after the major earthquake struck Sagaing. In all domestic peace dialogues, we must be vigilant not to disregard the core aspirations of the people.
While the international community continues to support efforts toward peace talks, I urge them to carefully examine the true intentions behind the military council’s peace efforts,” the Acting President said.
He also emphasized the importance of mutual communication, reciprocal assistance among cabinet members, and the need to implement practical action plans efficiently, swiftly, and with clear vision.

๐๐ 2. Prime Minister Highlights Need to Anticipate and Prepare for Emerging International Scenarios
April 23
At a recent cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Mann Win Khaing Than underscored the necessity to anticipate and be well-prepared for evolving global developments.
“Everyone has likely observed the differing political approaches among various revolutionary forces. Some of our allied revolutionary groups are striving to exert military pressure while simultaneously seeking to consolidate and project a unified and strong political force.
Others are placing greater emphasis on future federal governance, seeking to proceed with deeper consideration of international dynamics and perspectives.
International pressure may also intensify, potentially using the recent earthquake as a pretext.
ASEAN, on its part, has already engaged in highly coordinated efforts in this regard.
Therefore, it is essential that we, on our side, forecast and prepare for any forthcoming international developments,” the Prime Minister stated.
He added that, with cabinet members being entrusted with extensive duties, effective time and personnel management is crucial to ensure the revolutionary journey continues safely and healthily, offering his well wishes for that path ahead.

๐๐ 3. Nearly 20 Military Aircraft and Helicopters Damaged or Destroyed by Revolutionary Forces, Says Presidential Spokesperson
April 23
Presidential Office Spokesperson U Kyaw Zaw revealed that nearly 20 military aircraft and helicopters of the junta have been damaged or destroyed as a result of attacks by revolutionary forces.
In an interview with a news outlet earlier this April, he stated:
“Anti-aircraft weaponry remains limited in certain areas. While we’ve managed to engage targets in some locations, we haven’t been able to fully defend many others.
Another issue is Myanmar’s vast geography. Junta aircraft operate nationwide, but our weaponry cannot be easily transported from one area to another, and we face limitations in both mobility and availability.
Though we don’t have exact figures, around eight military planes and over ten helicopters have reportedly been damaged or destroyed. Some were completely destroyed. This demonstrates a capacity to defend ourselves proportionately,” he said.
He added that efforts are ongoing to raise public awareness and preparedness for the junta’s aerial attacks and to advocate for international bans on aviation fuel sales to the military.

๐๐ 4. Justice For Myanmar Calls on Malaysia and ASEAN to End Complicity in Military Junta’s Crimes
April 23
Justice For Myanmar (JFM) has called on Malaysia and ASEAN to end all forms of complicity in the military junta’s crimes.
“Instead of holding the Myanmar junta accountable for its war crimes, Malaysia, the current ASEAN Chair, has engaged in meetings with them.
Min Aung Hlaing has been using earthquake relief as a weaponized tool, escalating aerial assaults and committing massacres.
Engaging with a war criminal amounts to endorsing and facilitating such atrocities.
Stop supporting war crimes. Malaysia and ASEAN must immediately cease their complicity and stand with the people of Myanmar,” the statement read.
Justice For Myanmar continues to expose the junta’s financial interests and advocates for international sanctions and accountability actions against the regime.

๐๐ 5. Record-Breaking Heatwave to Hit Central Myanmar
April 23
A civilian meteorological observer has warned that over the next four days, temperatures will rise above 40°C in the central Myanmar regions of Sagaing, Mandalay, and Magway—areas home to the highest concentration of displaced families affected by conflict and recent earthquakes.
The warning covers 22 townships within these regions where many displaced civilians are residing, including Sagaing, Monywa, Budalin, Twingywar, Sarlingyi, Myaung, Pale, Tamu, Mandalay, Myingyan, Tada-U, Myitnge, Kyaukse, Taungtha, Myinchan, Nyaung-U, Singu, Pakokku, Upper Minhla, Yezagyo, Pauk, and Pakhangyi.
Since the 2021 military coup, the junta has waged war across the country, resulting in the destruction of more than 100,000 homes. Among the hardest-hit areas, Sagaing Region alone accounts for nearly 75,000 homes destroyed. The brutal military operations have displaced over one million people, with most taking shelter in remote areas—fields, farmlands, and open spaces far from their original villages.

๐๐ 6. Germany Announces Additional $2.5 Million in Humanitarian Aid for Myanmar Earthquake Response
April 23
The German Embassy in Yangon announced on April 23 that Germany will contribute an additional USD 2.5 million in humanitarian assistance to support earthquake response efforts in Myanmar.
According to the announcement:
"Germany is allocating this additional funding to support urgent relief operations following the devastating earthquake in Myanmar. Of the $2.5 million, $1 million will be contributed to the Myanmar Humanitarian Fund (MHF), and the remaining $1.5 million will be disbursed through national and international non-governmental partner organizations."
This new funding brings Germany’s total humanitarian aid to Myanmar in 2025 to over USD 10 million. Of the earlier allocations, $5.5 million was already provided directly to the MHF, while additional contributions have also been made to the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF)—the United Nations' global emergency relief mechanism.
Germany has also supported emergency airlifts through the EU’s humanitarian air bridge, and has pledged to continue long-term humanitarian engagement in Myanmar, including post-earthquake recovery and resilience-building initiatives.

๐๐ 7. Myanmar Community in Canada Raises $10,000 for Earthquake Recovery Efforts
April 23
In Canada, members of the Myanmar diaspora have raised USD 10,000 for earthquake recovery efforts through a food sale fundraising initiative, according to reports.
Organized as a small market under the project name "Giggle Gang," the initiative generated net proceeds of CAD 651, which were formally handed over to Ko Tin Maung Htoo of the London Burmese Community.
A statement from the London Burmese Community reads:
"We have reached our target of $10,001 for earthquake recovery. We sincerely thank all members of the Giggle Gang for their dedication and extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported by purchasing food."
During the month of April, Giggle Gang members sold a variety of traditional Burmese dishes to raise funds for communities affected by the earthquake.
These reports were compiled and submitted by Radio NUG correspondents Tharki, Ko Khant, and Khaymon.
