Military News Updates – April 09, 2025 Evening

🚩🚩 1. KIA says Inndaw Town captured after SAC launched attacks during ceasefire period

The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) reported that the Revolutionary Joint Forces of Military Region 1 launched an assault and successfully captured Inndaw Town, following the military junta’s breach of ceasefire agreements and initiation of attacks during the truce.

According to a press release from the KIA’s Information Department on the night of April 8, the joint forces of Military Region 1 carried out a counteroffensive after the military council side began launching assaults despite an announced ceasefire. This led to the capture of Inndaw Town.

Although both the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the National Unity Government (NUG)’s Ministry of Defense had declared a ceasefire, and the military council had also announced a truce from April 2 to 22, the SAC violated the ceasefire shortly after it came into effect. On the night of April 2, the junta conducted aerial bombings on Bhamo, followed by airstrikes on Inndaw and Waingmaw on April 3, along with subsequent ground offensives, according to local sources.

Due to the junta's preemptive attacks during the ceasefire period, the joint forces of Military Region 1 engaged in combat operations, ultimately seizing control of the remaining junta outposts and the entire town of Inndaw on the evening of April 7, the KIA said.

Weapons and ammunition were reportedly seized during the battle for Inndaw. Although the exact number of captured junta soldiers was not disclosed, military sources indicated that over 40 troops were taken prisoner, along with a Howitzer artillery piece, a 120mm mortar, various small and large firearms, and a significant cache of ammunition.

In a statement regarding the battle for Inndaw, the NUG’s Ministry of Defense stated that the operation was carried out over the course of more than eight months, with the junta battalion commander and his personnel eventually fleeing the town.

Inndaw was a major strategic base serving as the headquarters of the military junta's Light Infantry Division 77, reportedly under the direct command of its battalion commander.

🚩🚩 2. Mandalay PDF says junta continues aerial attacks on civilian areas despite ceasefire announcement

The Mandalay People’s Defense Force (PDF) reported that the military junta continued aerial assaults on civilian-populated towns and villages across the country, in blatant disregard of its own ceasefire declaration.

According to Mandalay PDF, the junta’s statement about a ceasefire was followed almost immediately by continuous air raids targeting towns and villages inhabited by civilians.

On March 28, a powerful earthquake struck near Sagaing in central Myanmar. In response, the NUG’s Ministry of Defense directed all PDF battalions under its command to halt offensive operations for about three weeks in the earthquake-affected areas, except for necessary self-defense actions, to allow for focused humanitarian relief efforts. Mandalay PDF also temporarily suspended its military operations in line with this directive.

Although the junta had similarly announced a ceasefire from April 2 to 22, ground reports confirm that it continued military operations, particularly aerial attacks, throughout this period.

The Mandalay PDF reported that during the supposed ceasefire period, the junta carried out:

2 airstrikes in Singu Township

1 in Madaya Township

5 in Tabeikkyin Township

1 in Mogok Township

1 in Naung Cho Township

These incidents have been documented with evidence, the group stated.

In addition, the junta has not ceased artillery shelling or ground offensives, continuing attacks with heavy weapons.

Some civilian casualties have already been reported due to these airstrikes.

As a result, the Mandalay PDF described the military junta’s ceasefire declaration as a deceptive ploy to gain political leverage with both the local population and the international community by using the earthquake disaster as a pretext.

🚩🚩 3. Myingyan military checkpoint attack leaves 14 junta troops dead, 8 injured

The Myingyan Black Tiger (MBT) resistance group reported that an attack on a military junta checkpoint in Ward 18 of Myingyan Town, Mandalay Region, resulted in the deaths of 14 junta soldiers and injuries to 8 others.

MBT and allied forces launched a close-range assault on the checkpoint at around 4:30 p.m. on April 6.

The clash lasted for nearly an hour, during which 14 soldiers were killed. Among the wounded was the Ward 18 administrative officer and 7 additional junta troops.

The resistance also intercepted and attacked a junta military vehicle carrying reinforcements. While the vehicle sustained damage and casualties were reported, MBT said further investigation was ongoing to confirm the exact impact.

The operation was jointly conducted by Myingyan Black Tiger (MBT), the Bo Sar Pyaw Kyarr resistance force, and BGF (likely referring to an anti-junta allied group and not the Border Guard Force under SAC).

🚩🚩 4. Resistance executes Pyu militia leader who directed arson attacks in Oakpho

The Oakpho Urban Guerrilla Force reported that it carried out an operation to eliminate a Pyu Saw Htee militia leader accused of supplying alcohol to junta soldiers and ordering them to torch civilian homes in Oakpho Township, Thayarwaddy District, western Bago Region.

On the afternoon of April 8, at around 1:30 p.m., the resistance force ambushed and killed Pyu militia commander Phoe Phyu near Tharyet Nyat Phyar Laing village in Oakpho, as he was returning from KhaMaYa 6 camp by motorcycle.

According to the group, they recovered a handmade bomb, two mobile phones used to communicate with junta forces, one motorcycle, and 67,000 kyats in cash from Phoe Phyu’s possession.

The group stated that Phoe Phyu was actively involved in gathering intelligence on revolutionary fighters and passing information to the junta. He reportedly harbored junta troops and police officers in his home, facilitated the looting of civilian property, and ordered arson attacks on public homes.

Due to his continued collaboration with the junta and oppressive actions against the resistance and civilians, the resistance unit stated the assassination was a necessary measure.

The group also warned civilians to avoid associating or moving in areas connected with junta troops and collaborators, as targeted operations will intensify.

🚩🚩 5. Seventeen Homes Burned Down in Taung Bo Village of Salin Township Due to Arson by the Military

According to the Salin Township People’s Administration Team, seventeen homes were reduced to ashes after the junta forces deliberately set fire to Taung Bo Village, located in the northern part of Salin Township, Magway Region.

On April 6, at around 4:00 PM, junta troops reportedly launched a coordinated arson attack on Taung Bo Village from four different directions.

In addition to the destruction of seventeen houses, four cow barns used for storing harvested paddy also went up in flames, according to local sources.

It was further reported that when members of the local People’s Defense Force (PDF) launched a counterattack on the junta troops while the arson attack was ongoing, the junta soldiers fled the area.
