📌📌 1. NUG Vows Legal Action Against All Military Lobbyists Who Conceal the Truth

May 16 – Radio NUG

The National Unity Government (NUG) has announced that it will take legal action in accordance with the law against all military lobbyists who are involved in concealing and distorting the truth.

This statement was released in connection with ongoing war crimes perpetrated by the terrorist military, including the aerial attack on a monastery school in Dipeyin.

Although the terrorist military has issued ceasefire declarations as a façade, it continues to carry out relentless aerial bombardments, heavy artillery attacks, and mass killings on a daily basis. Moreover, the junta attempts to cover up these crimes through deliberate misinformation—either by broadcasting blatant denials via state-controlled media outlets like MRTV and MWD, or by employing paid military lobbyists to spread fabricated news and doctored information.

The NUG has affirmed its commitment to exhaust all means to put an end to the junta’s aerial assaults and to minimize, as much as possible, civilian casualties and the destruction of homes and properties resulting from such attacks.

The NUG further stated that it will actively pursue justice—both in international courts, national courts around the world, and through domestic legal systems—against all those responsible for these war crimes. This includes military leaders who issued orders, commanding officers who implemented them, pilots who carried out airstrikes, soldiers involved in the attacks, those who provided support or encouragement, and military lobbyists who worked to conceal the truth.

According to data compiled by the NUG Ministry of Human Rights, between January 1, 2023, and May 12, 2025, the terrorist military conducted a total of 2,679 airstrikes across 13 states and regions in Myanmar—excluding Yangon and Naypyidaw.

📌📌 3. Rare Earth Mining Ongoing Near Myanmar–Thailand Border in Eastern Shan State, SHRF Reports

May 16 – Radio NUG

The Shan Human Rights Foundation (SHRF) has reported that rare earth mining—posing severe health risks to local populations—is ongoing approximately 25 kilometers from the Myanmar–Thailand border near Mong Sat in Eastern Shan State.

According to SHRF’s statement released on May 15, the mining site is located in the southern part of Mong Sat Township, in the Mong Yawn area, which is under the control of the United Wa State Army (UWSA). Satellite imagery has confirmed the site’s existence.

The satellite images reveal two distinct mining sites. SHRF warns that waste discharged from these sites is entering the Nam Kok River, contaminating water sources and potentially affecting the health of more than one million people living along the river in both countries.

Based on earlier satellite records, these two rare earth mining sites began operations between mid-2023 and mid-2024. The mining methods bear a striking resemblance to the “in situ leaching” techniques previously employed by Chinese companies in Kachin State—techniques known for their destructive impact on the environment.

SHRF emphasized that such mining operations could cause soil erosion, contamination of surface and groundwater, the death of fish and wild animals, and damage to crops. Given these serious threats to the health of communities along the riverbanks in both Myanmar and Thailand, the group urged authorities in both countries to urgently investigate and publicly disclose their findings.
