๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 3. Workers’ Union Leaders Dismissed Amid Labor Dispute at True Green Co., Ltd Factory in Shwepyithar Township

Radio NUG

Workers’ union leaders at the True Green Co., Ltd factory in Shwepyithar Township were dismissed from their jobs while a labor dispute was still being negotiated, according to an announcement released by the Confederation of Trade Unions Myanmar (CTUM) on May 19.

The factory, located at No. 135, Maha Myaing Road, in the Wah Tara Industrial Zone of Shwepyithar Township, employed staff who had raised concerns about the insufficiency of the minimum wage of MMK 6,800, especially in light of rising consumer prices. As a result, workers formally submitted a request for a wage increase through workplace-level negotiation.

During the negotiation process, factory management repeatedly refused to consider the wage increase and ultimately terminated the employment of the union leaders. Despite six rounds of township-level mediation attempts, the issue remained unresolved due to continued resistance from factory management.

The case was then escalated to the regional-level Conciliation Body, and a mediation session was held at the Regional Office on May 12. However, the factory owner and management persisted in rejecting the workers' demands, stating they were unable to comply.

Instead of providing a solution, the factory’s manager reportedly informed the workers that the remaining four members of the Executive Committee (EC) would also be dismissed. When asked for the reason behind the dismissals, management refused to provide an explanation.

In response, 145 union members gathered in front of the factory’s office to demand transparency from the manager regarding the dismissals. The workers stated that dismissing employees during an ongoing negotiation process is a clear violation of labor regulations.
