๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 1. MOU Signed Between Mon National College and CRRU University

May 25

Mon National College (MNC) and Chiang Rai Rajabhat University (CRRU) in Thailand have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for higher education cooperation. According to an announcement by the Independent Mon News Agency on May 24, the agreement was officially signed on May 23 at CRRU.

The collaboration is based on a (2+2) agreement format, under which students from Mon National College will complete two years of study at MNC and then continue for another two years at CRRU. Upon completion, they will be awarded a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree.

The signing ceremony was attended by CRRU university officials, MNC Principal Dr. Nai Pannya Mon, Head of the Department of Social Sciences Nai Myint Than, and former MNC students currently studying at Payap University (PU) in Thailand.

Initially, the agreement applies specifically to MNC students majoring in Social Sciences, who are eligible to study at CRRU under the terms of this partnership.

“The main purpose is for the (2+2) education program. Their side is also quite enthusiastic. Compared to other universities, their tuition fees are relatively affordable. If this collaboration proceeds smoothly, our students will be able to attend CRRU with their own expenses,” said Nai Myint Than, Head of the Department of Social Sciences at MNC.

Furthermore, Mon National College is planning to expand cooperation with CRRU in additional academic disciplines.

MNC Principal Dr. Nai Pannya Mon also stated that the college has held discussions to establish MOUs with other institutions, including Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University in Bangkok, Thailand, and Indiana Tech University in the United States.

The signing of MOUs with international universities is part of MNC’s ongoing efforts to expand educational opportunities for students and enhance cooperation between the international academic community and Mon organizations.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 2. New Recruit Who Was Arrested After Killing Village Administrator Defects to KNLA

May 25

A newly recruited soldier, Ko Khant Win Naing, who had previously killed a village administrator from Thaman Kone Village in Shwe Taung Township, Bago Region, and was arrested while fleeing, has defected to the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), according to a KNLA statement.

The announcement was accompanied by a video recording, released by the KNLA, showing soldiers from the military junta defecting to KNLA joint forces during ongoing offensives led by the "Aung Zeya Column" in Karen State.

Ko Khant Win Naing explained that he killed the village administrator because he could no longer tolerate the junta’s extortion practices—going door-to-door collecting money in Thaman Kone Village.

After committing the killing and fleeing, he was captured at the Aung Mingalar Bus Terminal in Yangon. He was subsequently sent to a military training school in Hmawbi and later assigned to the Aung Zeya military column from Battalion 511 in Tee Kyaik.

He stated that the junta unit he was assigned to was a deceptive recruitment battalion that used propaganda to prevent new conscripts from joining resistance forces.

The junta continues to forcibly recruit youth across the country under the pretext of the conscription law and deploys them to the Aung Zeya Column operating in the Kawkareik area of Karen State. However, it has been reported that many of these newly recruited soldiers are defecting to the joint forces of the Karen National Union/Karen National Liberation Army (KNU/KNLA).

This report was submitted by Ko Khant, a field correspondent for Radio NUG.
