๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 1. KIA-Allied Forces Ambush Junta Troop Column Advancing Toward Hpakant: 13 Soldiers Killed, One Captured Alive

In Kachin State, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and allied resistance forces launched an ambush on a military column advancing toward Hpakant, resulting in the deaths of 13 junta soldiers and the capture of one alive, according to local sources.

On May 1, the joint forces of the KIA and KPDF attacked a junta troop column stationed near Lawar Village along the main road to Tanai. During the assault, they reportedly seized the bodies of 13 junta troops—including members of the People’s Militia under military command—as well as weapons and ammunition. The remaining soldiers reportedly fled southward toward Sutawng Hill.

KIA and KPDF joint forces pursued the fleeing soldiers and engaged them near Sutawng Hill, successfully capturing one junta soldier alive. The allied forces have since taken control of Sutawng Hill, sources added.

In the early morning hours of May 2, KIA and KPDF joint units also launched a drone bombing attack on a junta column advancing toward Nan Yar Village along the Myitkyina-Hpakant Road, according to regional reports.

It is reported that the military council has deployed an estimated 600 troops in multiple columns for this offensive, leading to continuous clashes with joint KIA and KPDF forces.

Due to the intensifying battles, residents from at least ten villages along the Myitkyina-Hpakant route have been forced to flee their homes, becoming internally displaced by the fighting.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 2. Military Council Launches Airstrikes on Nawnghkio Township

The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) reported that the military council launched airstrikes and artillery shelling on Nawnghkio Township in the 2nd Military Region of Ta’ang territory.

On May 1 at around 6:45 p.m., the junta carried out an airstrike using a fighter jet to drop two bombs on Lon Kham Village in Nawnghkio Township.

Additionally, the military council launched drone bombings and artillery shelling using 120mm howitzers from its 354th base located in Taung Khan Village, targeting areas where TNLA forces were present, according to the TNLA's announcement.

Furthermore, the TNLA stated that on the night of April 30, without any active clashes occurring, the junta also bombed areas in Mogok Township, Mandalay Region. Around 8:30 p.m., airstrikes were conducted between Thit Seint Kone and Kyauk Pot Villages in western Mogok.

Although the junta had declared a nationwide ceasefire until the end of April, it has escalated its aerial assaults across the country, the TNLA stated.

According to data from TNLA’s Information and Communication Department, during aerial attacks on TNLA-controlled Nawnghkio Township throughout April, the junta dropped 37 poison gas bombs and 32 fragmentation bombs, and fired 26 artillery shells.

The military council is not only reinforcing its troops and launching offensives in areas administered by the Palaung State Liberation Front (PSLF/TNLA), but it has also deliberately carried out airstrikes on civilian-populated areas where no clashes were taking place. The TNLA urged civilians to remain vigilant and adhere to air-raid precautionary measures.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 3. Military Council Airstrikes Target Civilian Areas in Hpapun District

The Karen National Union (KNU) reported today, May 2, that the military junta’s air force conducted airstrikes on civilian areas in Hpapun (Mutraw) District, under the KNU's Dooplaya administrative zone in southern Karen State.

On April 29, the junta carried out repeated air attacks using Y-12 aircraft, fighter jets, and attack helicopters on several locations including Nonyathoo, Porphopalo, Law Musaw, Law Mu Pel, and Maw Lay, according to the statement.

Between 5:50 p.m. and 6:10 p.m. that evening, fighter jets bombed Law Musaw Village, damaging the home, motorbike, warehouse, and huts belonging to a villager named Saw Sat Lar.

The KNU stated that ongoing clashes between the junta forces and resistance groups led by the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) are frequent in areas such as Hpapun, Saw Hti, and Moo Townships within Hpapun District. The junta, having suffered losses in these clashes, has resorted to using heavy artillery, drones, and aircraft to carry out indiscriminate attacks on civilian areas without direct engagement.

Due to these relentless airstrikes by the junta, innocent civilians are living in constant fear, and the number of internally displaced people continues to rise daily.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 4. PDF Issues Warning to Residents of Tharyarwaddy District to Stay Continuously Alert to Aerial Threats and Airstrike Warnings

The People's Defence Force (PDF) Battalion No. 3, Unit P2 3803, has issued a warning to residents living in Tharyarwaddy District, located in the western part of Bago Region, urging them to remain continuously vigilant regarding the dangers of aerial attacks and to pay close attention to airstrike-related news.

This warning was issued as part of a public notice outlining seven key appeals for residents across the eight townships within Tharyarwaddy District to follow.

The PDF urged local populations across the eight townships to dig and maintain sturdy bomb shelters, to remain continuously alert to aerial threats and airstrike updates, and to actively support and protect one another as a community.

In addition, due to ongoing indiscriminate attacks by the junta’s military on villages and areas surrounding active conflict zones, the public is advised to temporarily avoid living in or travelling through areas within reach of the junta’s heavy weaponry.

The public has also been encouraged to closely cooperate with local security committees and PDF units when receiving announcements and instructions deemed necessary for their safety.

In order to ensure the success of resistance operations conducted by the People's Defence Force, PDF Battalion No. 3, Unit P2 3803, further appealed to the public to treat all information related to troop movements and resistance operations with strict confidentiality.

Since the region remains contested and not yet under firm control of the resistance forces, the public is urged to limit discussions and consultations about such matters strictly to individuals they can fully trust, in order to protect their personal safety.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 5. Justice For Myanmar Urges Immediate Action to Halt Junta's Airstrike Killings and Save Civilian Lives

May 2

Justice For Myanmar has called for urgent and coordinated action to stop the junta’s airstrikes and mass killings and to save the lives of innocent civilians.

“More than a month after a powerful earthquake struck, the military has intensified its airstrike campaigns, deliberately targeting areas already severely devastated by the quake. Immediate efforts are critically needed to halt the junta’s indiscriminate bombings and protect the lives of innocent civilians,” the group stated.

The earthquake, which struck on March 28 with a magnitude of 7.7, centered around Sagaing City, claimed the lives of over 3,000 people.

Since that quake, the junta has persistently carried out airstrikes and heavy artillery attacks against civilian-populated areas.

According to an announcement by the National Unity Government, from March 28 to April 25, the military junta carried out 225 airstrikes, resulting in 242 civilian deaths.
