Radio NUG
On May 5, marking the 4th anniversary of the formation of the People’s Defence Force (PDF), the Ministry of Defence under the National Unity Government delivered an address aimed at strengthening morale.
In his speech, Union Minister U Yee Mon reviewed the four-year journey of the PDF, paying tribute to those who had sacrificed their lives, blood, sweat, and bodies to dismantle the military dictatorship and to build a federal democratic union.
“Revolution is a path we ourselves have chosen—a journey through endless hardship toward liberation from military enslavement,” he stated unequivocally.
U Yee Mon outlined three key pillars behind the success of the PDF:
Territorial control on the ground: More than three years of relentless resistance warfare by the people successfully severed the enemy’s supply routes and led to victories in strategic urban battles.
Popular support: Civilians provided the PDF fighters with food, resources, and moral strength.
Sustained endurance: The eight-month-long siege in the Battle of Inndaw City, carried out with unyielding perseverance, was highlighted as a critical factor in achieving victory.
One symbolic milestone of this anniversary was the capture of Inndaw City by the PDF and its allied forces—a feat celebrated as a “birthday gift” commemorating the fourth anniversary. U Yee Mon praised this historic victory as a model that offers invaluable lessons for the revolutionary movement.
He also urged members of the military junta’s armed forces to cease their acts of violence against civilians and to join the just side of the revolution, adding clearly:
“Even the army itself will benefit from peace and prosperity.”
Furthermore, he called on the public to remain vigilant against aerial attacks carried out by the junta and encouraged PDF fighters to redouble their efforts in protecting civilians from harm. U Yee Mon also emphasized the growing international dimension of the Myanmar crisis and urged the public to be highly alert to the support that certain foreign countries continue to extend to the military junta.
In closing, he stated:
“We have noble aspirations. We have the people. We will enhance our military knowledge and combat capacity.”
He called for greater unity and coordination among the PDF and its allied forces to enter the next phase of the revolution through strategic, nationwide operations.

๐ฉ๐ฉ 2. “As the PDF marks its fourth anniversary, one must ask: Are we still merely haters of Min Aung Hlaing, or have we become true revolutionaries?” – Dr. Soe Thurya Zaw
May 5
Radio NUG
On May 5, 2025, marking the 4th anniversary of the People’s Defence Force (PDF), Dr. Soe Thurya Zaw, a senior official from the Mandalay People’s Defence Force and a member of its Military Command Council, openly shared his thoughts on the revolutionary cause.
He underscored that the current revolution is not driven by personal hatred against Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, but is rather a systematic effort to dismantle authoritarian rule and eliminate its oppressive structures.
“In this vast world, even the fact of my very existence may only become known to Min Aung Hlaing if he truly seeks it. Yet today, I am a soldier of the People’s Defence Force, fighting his military relentlessly with all my might,” he declared.
Dr. Soe Thurya Zaw clarified that the revolution led by the PDF is people-centered and aims to uproot the military dictatorship in order to build a new federal democratic nation. He stressed that authoritarianism is not an exclusive trait of Min Aung Hlaing, Than Shwe, or Ne Win—it can emerge in anyone, and must be eradicated systemically.
“As we mark the fourth anniversary of the PDF’s founding, we must honestly ask ourselves—are we still at the stage of merely hating Min Aung Hlaing, or have we become true revolutionaries?” he challenged.
He warned that if the revolution is fueled only by personal hatred for Min Aung Hlaing, it risks merely replacing one dictator with another.
“Only when true revolutionaries emerge in greater numbers will the future of our country become brighter,” he expressed with conviction.
Dr. Soe Thurya Zaw emphasized that the current revolutionary struggle is about laying the foundation for a freer and more just nation for future generations of Myanmar.

In Minhla Township, Thayarwaddy District, Bago Region, a Pyu Saw Htee couple from Bantbwekon Village in Ywaekon Village Tract—informants for the military junta—were captured near Pyinkadoekhin Village, which lies beside the main road between Sainkanlan and Myochaung, according to Battalion 3802, Unit 5, operating in Thayarwaddy District.
The arrest took place around 12 noon on May 4. The two individuals—Mya Zaw Oo and Daw Yu Pi—were traveling by Pajero along the main road when they were intercepted and arrested. One Pajero vehicle, a mobile phone used for communication with the junta, a ring, and a pair of earrings were seized.
While being interrogated, military junta troops reportedly advanced into the area. As local resistance forces were preparing to counter-attack, the detainees attempted to flee during the confusion. A pursuit followed, during which they were shot and killed, according to the statement.
The Pyu Saw Htee couple, Mya Zaw Oo and Daw Yu Pi, had repeatedly provided false intelligence to the junta, facilitated the arrest of civilians, and collaborated with the junta to unlawfully confiscate and destroy homes and crops belonging to displaced persons. They were also accused of offering logistical and material support to junta forces, including chauffeuring junta personnel along key routes and disclosing information about the positions and activities of revolutionary forces. Despite repeated warnings via phone not to engage in such activities, they continued their actions and failed to comply, sources reported.

๐ฉ๐ฉ 5. Junta Bombs Villages, Hospital, and Monastery in KNU Brigade 1 Area
May 5
Radio NUG
According to the Karen Peace Support Network, a hospital in Phalan Taung Village, Hpa-An Township, Thaton District—located in KNU Brigade 1-controlled territory—was bombed by junta forces.
At approximately 11 PM on May 4, two bombs were dropped by fighter jets, causing no casualties but completely rendering the hospital buildings unusable due to extensive damage.
Phalan Taung Hospital is a 16-bed township hospital constructed during the NLD government’s tenure. However, it has remained closed since around 2022 due to recurring aerial and artillery attacks by the military junta following the coup.
Similarly, on the afternoon of May 4, junta airstrikes and artillery attacks targeted Myekyaukai Village and surrounding areas in Shwe Yaung Pya Village Tract, Bilin Township. That night, artillery fire was also directed at the area near Kyone Hmine Village in Kawhline Village Tract.
Although there were no reported injuries in these attacks, a monastery and several rubber plantations were damaged or destroyed.
These updates on military developments were reported by Radio NUG correspondents Tharki, Min Sitt Thway, and Khur Shel.
