On May 5, the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced new sanctions targeting Major Saw Chit Thu, the leader of the Border Guard Force (BGF), along with his two sons, Saw Htoo A Moo and Saw Chit Chit, and the Karen National Army (KNA)—the renamed BGF—for involvement in cyber scams, human trafficking, and cross-border organized crime.
The BGF (or KNA), which controls parts of the Thai–Myanmar border, including the town of Myawaddy, has been accused of collaborating with foreign criminal syndicates to establish bases for fraudulent operations such as the notorious Shwe Kokko project. These scam operations reportedly target U.S. citizens and have caused billions of dollars in losses, the U.S. Treasury stated.
Michael J. Galvin, U.S. Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, remarked:
“These cyber scam networks generate billions in revenue for criminal ringleaders and inflict severe harm on their victims. We will use every tool at our disposal to dismantle these networks and hold profiteers accountable.”

๐๐ 5. Drinking Water Purification Units Installed in Certain Regions Through Bybit’s Support for Myanmar
May 6
Radio NUG
Spring Development Bank has announced that drinking water purification units have been successfully installed in some regions of Myanmar, thanks to support provided by Bybit.
“In response to the devastating earthquake that struck on March 28, Bybit’s support enabled the implementation of solutions in affected areas—transforming simple water sources into full-scale reservoirs. This initiative has now begun to materialize on the ground. Particularly in regions where people lacked access to clean and safe water due to earthquake damage, we were able to install purification units critical for public health,” stated the bank.
Due to security concerns for local communities, images of these installations, which were completed earlier, could only now be released.
These updates were reported by Radio NUG correspondents Tharki and Khur Shel.
